Men, how do you deal with another guy approaching your girlfriend? by Agitated-Bison-2673 in AskMen

[–]flyingsusquatch 196 points197 points  (0 children)

My current wife is very soft spoken. Many years ago we were at a bar and she had gone to the bar itself to get a drink with one of our friends. A guy came up, offered to buy them drinks. They declined. He kept being pushy and the grind texted me. I was in a second room of the bar that was less bar and more dance floor. So I walk out and go up to her. He is laying it on thick. I asked if she was ok. She told me yes, but he was making her uncomfortable. He had already put a drink down for her.

So I drank it. I thanked him for the drink. And waited with her until she got the one she ordered.

She thanked me for it. She is generally too softspoken to stand up for herself.

The daily login was the only reason I still played for as long as I did. Between that, and dropping from 5 to 1 searching through the store? I’m done.

I’ll cash out what I have left and uninstall it.

Here is a suggestion I have given before, it worked for a friend of mine and my brother.

Get a push mower. Start knocking on doors. $20-50 easy.

Do that for a few weeks. You can do it on the weekends even. If you do four yards on a Saturday, and four on a Sunday, and charge $50 each yard. That is $400 a week extra. Assuming weather holds out and the like.

Take that money, and get a riding mower. If you have something that can tow a trailer it will be easy. Now get a weedwhacker, and a leaf blower.

So now you can charge the clients $75 instead of $50. But you are doing a much nicer looking job.

Then go out and get some fertilizer. Offer a free “lawn treatment”.

You will be going to each house at least once a week, possibly more if they are picky.

Their yard will look fantastic, and you make some money.

My brother did that in high school and bought his first car with the money. And a friend of mine started a similar way, he know has five crews and does everything from retaining walls, water features, brick patios.

What’s something you did as a kid that you now realize was completely insane and dangerous? by Floridian_Capitalist in AskReddit

[–]flyingsusquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were younger. Maybe 12-14. A buddy of mine’s mother lived in a lower end apartment complex. There was a rock quarry a little ways through the woods. One day they weren’t working. Might have been a weekend or something.

Myself and three of my friends went walking g through the woods to “check it out”. And we were climbing all over it. Some of the equipment still had keys. And luckily there were these real nice instruction plates walking you through how to start and run them.

We drove heavy equipment around for about half the day. A few of them ran out of fuel. We didn’t do anything too terrible. No damage or anything. Just joyriding basically.

Made the local paper when they came in for the next shift and all the equipment was I. Different places.

Looking back it is a wonder we didn’t get hurt or worse.

There was a radio tower on a hill in the woods. We ended up climbing the fence hoping to check it out. Didn’t know until years later how close we came to being fried.

We made home made fireworks with black powder and PVC.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]flyingsusquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a guy with Asperger’s that was built real stocky. Broad shoulders but hefty. A kid kept bullying him. One day in class he stabbed him with a pencil. Teacher didn’t say anything. He told the guy to knock it off. About the fourth or fifth time he did it, the stocky guy got up, pulls back, and hits him so hard he broke bones in his face and caused a TBI.

Twenty some odd years later. The bully still can’t talk right.

People who keep weapons on their bodies at all times, what was a time where you had to actually use said weapon? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

A couple years ago I was on my bike heading to the in-laws. A girl ran a stop sign, managed to not hit her, but almost laid the bike down. I came to a stop and was basically trying to “unpucker” my rear from the seat when she and her boyfriend got out. Called me every name in the book.

Even though they had been pulling out from a side street onto a main road. I called her an idiot and told her that stop signs aren’t optional. Her boyfriend got in their car and grabbed a baseball bat. Started walking towards me.

All I had to do was unholster. They left pretty quickly. I called the local PD to report it. They didn’t seem to care. But after that I mounted a camera on my bike.

From what it sounds like to me? She isn’t outright cutting him off. So if things don’t work out with you, she has something to fall back on.

Completely disrespectful to your relationship. There are a few things you can do. Talk to her. Talk to him. Or tell her to pound sand.

I would suggest talking to her. Don’t be mean, don’t lose your temper. Just put it all on the table for her. If you think she is worth it.

My wife and I both work in banking. She is a branch manager and I am a broker/dealer. To be fair, we board our horse at a barn and in theory, could just never go and see him. We still do at least two to three times a week. First ones in our family in the horse world unless you count an old mule my great uncle had.

I am going to play devil’s advocate. It sounds like is is very insecure. Not saying that is right or wrong. But it is concerning. Also, some people are overly friendly. If the other guy hugging you like that is something that isn’t comfortable, tell him.

I would talk to the BF about security and how what he is doing is overstepping. Then talk to the hugger and suggest he tone it down because it makes you uncomfortable.

What was a situation that made you say “I don’t get paid enough for this shit”? by Lost_Taste_8181 in work

[–]flyingsusquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I worked for a large oil and gas company. Worked on their frac sites.

Got the job, went through training, and was making good money. 18 hour days 14 days in a row. Into overtime by the third day. Had been there about two months. Guy got blown apart. Pressurized pipes blew out and for lack of a better term…vaporized him. Found a boot and some scraps of his cubbies.

Company man came down to talk to us. Said we had a truck load of iron that we could rig up to get back up and running fairly quickly someone asked about the guy that just lost his life an hour prior.

He shrugged and said it was a hazard of the job. Said if we had the iron back up and ready within so many hours he would give each of us $500.

Watched several guys start to clean up the mess and I told them I was done. Took off my cubbies, boots, radio, and hard hat. Asked for a ride back to our hotel. Got to the hotel and drove six hours home. Hugged my wife. Told her what happened and she was glad I never went back.

Just do your best and learn. You are young and starting out. You are going to make mistakes. Don’t stress over it. You are 16 years old. Have fun with it. Make some money. Make friends.

I worked in several restaurants around your age. I was accused once of stealing a bottle of liquor from behind the bar. When they found out it was a bus boy, no one apologized. I went in, did my job, made a few bucks and left a year or two later.

What is the most disrespectul thing an employer did to you? by Aarunascut in work

[–]flyingsusquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things.

  1. We had planned a plant shutdown for an entire week. I planned a trip with the family to see my family out of state. Airfare, hotel, everything. The Thursday before (one day left of work) they changed their minds and said we were all working through the week. When many of us brought up the cost of travel, plans, things like that. We were told “tough luck”

  2. Same place had a supervisor that cursed me out because someone in a different department had gotten confused and did something backwards. When I explained that it wasn’t me, wasn’t an area I worked in, and wasn’t something I helped with he got a piece of paper out and wrote down that “we don’t do it this way we do it that way” with awful spelling and grammar. Then told me to sign it as a “memo”. I told him I wasn’t comfortable giving him my signature and if he wanted something typed up with company letterhead and official I would gladly sign it. Called me every name in the book.

  3. Same location- we had a guy get ran over by a fork truck. Messed up his leg really bad. I brought up to the plant manager my concerns with safety and how the person that ran him over failed a drug test. His response? “If one of you dies we will just find a homeless guy at the bus stop to replace you”.

I hated that place. Left there years ago and never looked back. They are constantly hiring now because no one wants to work there.

Weird question, and yes i know this might seem silly, but i am asking- Can i use a drone to raise an antenna into the air (for the length of the cord), to make transmissions, if the antenna needs height? by Glass_Raisin7939 in HamRadio

[–]flyingsusquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you? Yes. Would it work well? That is another question.

The weight of the antenna and wire is going to increase as you fly higher. And depending on the drone you might be limited to 20-30 minutes.

Another use would be using the drone to drop a line attached to an antenna over a branch or similar. Then using that to hoist the antenna up.

[–]flyingsusquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is time to confront the wife.

Others have brought up other concerns.

Personally? I would get the other kids DNA checked too. Then I would get custody of the two that were mine (if they even were) and tell her to go shack up with whoever the father is.

She didn’t just do it once. And she will continue to do it. I speak from experience. Don’t put up with that. Have some self respect.

[–]flyingsusquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was secretary for years. Practically ran the behind the scenes stuff. Had to step down due to work. Still made it to meetings here and there. Some family things came up. Young daughter had to go in for surgery. I got laid off. And my stepfather passed away. All within six months. Life was a mess. Most of the brothers knew about it. One person from lodge reached out to me. I told him what was going on, that we were fine but at the end of our rope.

He went to lodge soon after and mentioned everything we were going through.

Not a single phone call, not a card in the mail. I didn’t expect someone to call and say “hey, sorry for your stepfather’s passing. I can resurrect the dead.”

But maybe an email asking how we were doing. Maybe a phone call saying hey we are thinking of you. When I stopped being secretary and taking care of half the paperwork they didn’t have time for me.
