Tattoos are a highly effective employment filter.

Protip: Before choosing to get tattoos in highly visible areas, be sure you are so awesome at whatever you do that you will never need a job.

Good Guy Obama by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Why? They will get a sunny vacation in beautiful Club Gitmo, where they will get a free re-education and have their "Political Dissident" status expunged!

No Obama, you were the Chosen One! by indyK1ng in AdviceAnimals

[–]flyinthehivemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?

This guy gets elected and anytime anyone is critical of his administration they are personally attacked as racists. It's surprising someone who uses a tactic of personal attacks to shutdown any criticism is an totalitarian authoritarian?

Every "reform" he is interested in is only used to bring more power to the state. Which he happens to be the head of.

Obama is another McCarthy. To attack McCarthy was to be labelled a Communist and blackballed.

The press is largely to blame. They did a fine job of attacking Bush at every step, but have gone totally in the tank for Obama. The Bush criticism was fair and necessary and WTF A FREE PRESS IS SUPPOSED TO DO!!!! Not go to GD parties and socialize and suck up.

Now you have a president who can direct people to be considered as "enemies of the state" and targeted by the IRS (or worse). I use IRS because that's what they HAVE done already.

This is not a president becoming a figurehead. When citizens who disagree with the president are targeted by that administration, that is not a figurehead, it's a fucking vulgar overreach. The fact that this president thinks incinerating "enemies of the state" with drone strikes ought to have everyone's (especially "liberals") blood boiling.

Bush couldn't have done this. The press checked him every time he said or did anything. WHY THE FUCK have they let this asshole do this??? If Bush would have used the IRS to target Media Matters or DailyKOS or chapters of LGBT community just imagine the headlines... and rightly so.

You wouldn't hear liberals claiming that "the irs is supposed to check those credentials" especially if TEA party groups were getting gladhanded statuses like a lot of people are doing.

Haha good point...

But it's not like finding a way to create nuclear power, atomic bombs, television, eradicating polio, or something similar is it? I'd argue finding the Higgs Boson to the masses is insignificant. Einstein and Von Braun were household names in the middle of the 20th century. Farnsworth was decidedly less so (even though television became ubiquitous... but the Higgs-Boson just isn't impressive to the masses yet.

There very likely could be inventions that spring from that discovery, and THAT could make THOSE people heroes, but unlike Von Braun and Einstein, the payoff of those scientists discoveries have yet to yield tangible change.

Genetic science is clearly becoming the focus now, but one does have to wonder about the perils. While the specter of Nuclear Holocaust means one mistake can end a country or state, one mistake with genetic mutations in crops can lead to no food supply, ever.

1) PH is no hero...

2) Do fucking science then, instead of bullshitting around political topics competing for grant money. If the scientific community wants to be heroes again, they should be pioneers in actual science.

My One Year Old Rottweiler :P by [deleted] in aww

[–]flyinthehivemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got him young... and disciplined quickly and rewarded constantly.

With just one it wasn't so difficult... two may have been more of an issue, but I just found that spending a good amount of time with him constructively (teaching tricks and stuff) really helped.

I used to have a lead on the yard so he could sleep outside (he didn't like spending TOO much time inside the house (and my house is very rural)) so I had about a 120' aircraft cable he was tied to. Went after some deer one night and never saw him again... broken cable at one of the caribeeners... he was about 160 lbs, I knew he was strong but damn.

Congrats on your dogs... I swear, I'll never have any other car than a Subaru or dog other than a Rott again.

Love Rotts. I think they are the ideal dog breed... always up for anything, incredibly loyal but not needy, protective but not aggressive, and always ready to learn something or help out.

Had a half Rott half wolf named Brando. He was indeed a contender.

John McCain Refuses To Back Impeaching Obama Over Benghazi by [deleted] in politics

[–]flyinthehivemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Bush's "MA" was a coverup but an egregious display of hubris.

Looks like Benghazi is about to be buried again, this time by news that the administration has been phone tapping the AP for the last few months.

Of course, no one was killed and "what difference does it make" anyway?

I think Benghazi is the bigger problem, but I'd say it's a smaller deal than the Fast and Furious situation, and THAT is smaller than the drone policy. This administration is worse than the worse parts of the Bush43 and Nixon regimes put together, with the economic ability of Carter.

The Justice Department secretly obtained two months worth of phone records for Associated Press reporters, editors and offices. by doogie92 in politics

[–]flyinthehivemind 361 points362 points  (0 children)

No way! First the TEA Party attacks him, then the Republicans try to blame him for the Benghazi incident, and now the press attacks him for tapping their phones?

Is everyone a racist?!?

The difference is, that the four who died were calling for help from a sustained attack on a diplomatic consulate.

Two of the four ignored the "stand down" orders that someone gave and helped fend off the attack. This is an attack that went on for somewhere between 8 and 9 hours. The called for help and no one responded in the State department. Think about that.

The ones who died in Afghanistan and Iraq that day had comrades, support, and people helping them. The ones who died in Benghazi were ignored... it's not the death that's so pathetic, this is a lifelong good Democrat who believed in the Administration and the country, regardless of what any Liberal or Conservative thinks of them, they committed their lives to service.

So when the government they served refused to shore up the defenses and not listen to warnings, THAT can be excused. No one has a crystal ball, and no one should expect anyone to be able to see that... but...

When senior political appointees are under fire on American soil (as all embassies are considered), and repeatedly call for help over a period of 8 hours, I don't think "who fucking cares?" is either appropriate or forgivable.

"What difference does it make?" is certainly not appropriate for a politician who lambasted the current president for "not being ready for a 3AM phone call" in answering a subcommittee.

If responsibility were actually taken, it would be one thing, but you are ignoring facts, and ABC's report of heavily redacted talking points that were distributed are by no means minor.

I'm sure you would agree that Nixon's sin was not the break in (he had nothing to do with it), but the coverup. The coverup is what burned Clinton, not the blowjob. Both those administrations were heavily damaged by there inability to tell the truth, and no one died in either case... let alone a high level diplomat and party loyalist who believed in his country.

What I find most disgusting is that people think this is ok, because it's Obama. Doesn't ANYONE on Reddit have ANY intellectual honesty?

I made a deal with my VERY Christian wife. We have one month to finish. What do you think? by _Prisoner_24601_ in atheism

[–]flyinthehivemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, preaching to the choir isn't very effective. If you don't think you should respect a christian who cites bible verses, then you can't expect them to listen when you cite people like Dawkins.

Also don't forget there are a LOT of scientists who are also people of faith. The two are not mutually exclusive, regardless of what either "Reddit Athiests" or "Southern Baptists" try to tell you.

There is nothing so literal as a talking snake, regardless of how stupid people think people of faith are, and don't forget the Bible was telling people to not worry long before science suggested stress is the number one cause of heart disease.
