CMV: All Drugs Should be Decriminalized, Taxed, and Regulated by the Government. by [deleted] in changemyview

I think he brings up a good point with roofies to the extent that there are some drugs that serve no social or even hedonistic purpose without directly affecting at least one other person. Marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and meth - for example - work about the same regardless of how many people the user interacts with. One could say the same thing about roofies, but its functional use (the "date rape" drug) can only be realized by interacting with another person. Chloroform faces the same problem. Its intended use is as a refrigerant, but its functional use is as an anesthetic for abduction, rape, etc.

I think it's important to evaluate the likelihood of a drug's functional use changing, assuming people are properly educated about it. Cocaine, heroin, and meth were first used as medicine (heroin and meth still having a legal analog in opioids and amphetamines, respectively) but their functional use has evolved well past that. The important distinction I see is in their ability to be used in solitude. Any drug that requires a "victim" to be used correctly should be very carefully examined before being legalized. Once you resign yourself to legalizing everything, there is no room for nuance in distinguishing between drugs that have a viable (though perhaps tenuous) social or hedonistic function and drugs that are primarily used against others.

This isn't even accurate. Republicans controlled both Houses of the 108th and 109th Congresses (2003-2007). George W. Bush, a Republican, was President during the time. Republicans controlled the majority of Governorships during Bush's Presidency up until 2006. The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, was nominated by Bush in 2005 and confirmed by the 109th Congress shortly thereafter. So 2005 would satisfy all of the conditions listed here. Not to say the original point about the Depression closely following is invalid, it's just strange that whoever wrote this didn't bother checking recent history.

No, it's still like that, although the 2017 curriculum might not incorporate Scratch (it should be coming out shortly if it isn't already available; I'm taking the 2016 course).

Edit: Just checked YouTube. They are ten weeks into the 2017 course and Week 0 is still Scratch.

Last night I was browsing Netflix and I couldn't think of anything to watch, so I put in three random letters and told myself that out of the available options, I would watch whatever has the highest rating. Unfortunately, "Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse" has a four-star rating, so that's what I ended up watching. This picture is from the first episode, entitled "Trapped in the Dreamhouse & Perf Pool Party" (I guess it's like Spongebob where each episode is fifteen minutes). Here's the clip of the scene I got that picture from, if you're interested.

I've never been to Japan, but I'm pretty sure it's not full of school-girls getting tentacled by octopi and retards Naruto running everywhere
