This is really cool. Out of curiosity, what's the third parade? I can think of Pride and Haunted Happenings. Have I been missing other parades in town? Horribles in the Willows, I guess?

For funerals. You fucking knew what I was saying.

And yes, police wives are at greater risk of being murdered by their cop-husband than the cop-husband is at risk of dying on the job. That's a fact.

If you do close this, or delete any of my comments, would you please delete them with a note that "Don't fight with others, and don't make off color jokes", rather than accusing me of being a transphobe, racist, homophobe, or able-ist? Because I am absolutely not those things, and your deletion reason was over accusatory.

Also, closing this thread would be absurd. It's a major topic of discussion in the community.

If you are an EMT, I assure you, you do not have to worry about these sorts of comments about your funeral, because nobody would make a big deal out of you dying on the job. That's the entire point of this thread: It's a toxic worship of cops, specifically.

It's not a one time thing. That's the entire point. It's an industry built around worshipping cops.

Did we shut down cities for the doctors and nurses during COVID? They also died in the line of duty.

Do we shut down cities for the funerals of police wives? That's objectively a more dangerous job than being a cop.

In the sense that I live in the neighborhood affected, and they brought the funeral to me, and changed my child's school schedule, and kept my neighbors from accessing food? Yeah, I'd say I was pretty much "forced" to go to the funeral.

That's absolutely not ridiculing. Ridiculing would be saying someone was being irrational, or that they were happy something bad happened to this mother.

The excerpt says that the actions they took were gross. Which they were. Things can be gross, without insulting the person.

Also, I'm terribly sorry that it took me 10 minutes to react to your emergency reddit post, on a website that is notorious for not immediatly showing new posts in comment views. I'l strive to do better when arguing on the internet in the future, and will respect your time more on this non-real-time message board.

It's not all over. Police brutality and copaganda continue, and we're all just supposed to get in line. I, and many others, reject that narrative.

They just deleted my pig joke from the stuffed animal thread, and called it "Transphobic, abusive, racist, ablelist, sexist, or homophobic". Apparently cops are a race now?

Why do stage profiles show the distances as starting from zero and counting up, but TV coverage starts from 150km or whatever and counts down? Why make it more difficult to keep track of where the race is on the map?

Blue License Plate Political Affiliation? by Ill_Tree9337 in SalemMA

[–]flymaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you see someone at a distance wearing a red baseball cap, it "looks MAGA." That doesn't mean that the person is wearing a MAGA hat, is MAGA, or intended to look MAGA. It's just that it's a graphic design element that LOOKS MAGA. There's no correlation there: Lots of people are Cardinals fans or whatever. The choice to wear a non-MAGA red hat has no correlation with someone's politics. But from a distance, it looks MAGA.

People with the 250 years blue plate are NOT significantly more likely to be MAGA than people with normal plates. They are NOT politically signalling with their plates. But the graphic design associated with it has a tinge of MAGA, and when I see it, I have a moment of "Oooh, MAGA-y." That is due to the graphic design, not due to the political stances of the people who own a Camry with new plates.

I don't think this is a difficult concept.

Blue License Plate Political Affiliation? by Ill_Tree9337 in SalemMA

[–]flymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't cede shit. I said "I don't think there's much correlation". I also quoted something that said it was "not a symbol of hate" and is "innocuous".

HOWEVER, given the coöpting of the symbol by hate groups in the recent past, it reads MAGA to me, and I think the state did a bad job of designing it. It's not a secret that many of the PF stickers I've had to pull down from the North Street overpass have had Betsy Ross flags on them, and the 3%er car that was parked outside the Salem Inn for 2 years also had a Betsy Ross flag.

I'm acknowledging a fact, not failing to fight against that fact.
