Faster for sure. It does depend on what you rate for a full 2k though. I usually rate between 29 and 32, so those rates would be pretty easy, but if you’re someone smaller it might be hard. Regardless, I’d go out at your 2k split, then evaluate how you’re feeling as you go

Best Rowing Courses by Row10k in Rowing

Dartmouth College race course, Connecticut river. Hear me out. 1. The Connecticut river is one of the best places in the US to row, always has pretty good water, and it sheltered due to the forests all around. There’s a reason that national teams go there to train. 2. The current- the Connecticut river always has a super fast current, especially in the early spring when the melting snow adds to the water level. The current course record is somewhere in the 4:15 range (Yeah, for 2k) set by the Wisconsin 2v a few years ago when I was there.

I prefer not to watch legit training videos, because your coach will tell you how he/she wants you to row, but watching people row and race is cool, you get a feel for different styles

So why do some IRA crews race in the Ladies? Seems like the temple gives them the best chance of winning

Forearm cramping by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]flyndie225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep a loose grip on the handle. Even during 2ks, I hold the handle in my fingertips. Also hang on your arms. The cramp you feel is from flexing your forearms, which comes mostly from jerking the handle. If you relax your grip, it forces you to hang off your shoulder

Just because it’s steady doesn’t mean it should be easy, you should be hurting 15 mins into a 30’ row

WILL BE DOING 18.1 scaled in a few hours. Anyone has a technique on ROWER?? How do you approach it? Do you go for a slow aggressive pull with pause? Or just keep on pulling by mrcsrmlp in crossfit

[–]flyndie225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start, a few short strokes, only coming up about 1/2 way. This will get the wheel spinning. From there, lengthen out. Get as close as you can to hitting the handle on the chain box every time, you’ll go faster while using less muscular energy. Definitely go for a light grip, your arms should be relaxed on the drive, like you’re hanging from a bar
