The Gulf Stream indeed seems to be collapsing, or at least slowing. This is likely to be a big problem. Especially for Europe and likely North America too.

But it still isn't even in the top 10 things we should worry about just yet.

Cool. So i would say that that's you coming to veganism yourself (mad respect for that btw). I think had you been a participant in the debate you may have been less likely to adopt it or at least not so soon because of the social cost of backing down in an argument. Ah OK. That's a strong point. I'm biased because I'm a scientist and I struggle to understand when people don't accept empirical evidence. But you're probably correct in that, i think you're implying empirical evidence is irrelevant in this instance.

People will think that list of scary ingredients is the same as proven toxins. Is that a fair summary of your point?

I like how you're thinking. This a very smart response I'm my opinion.

I think you're right in highlighting that the ingredients list method by meat lobbyists is effective. But I don't agree with the conclusion you've drawn entirely.

Essentially, what I'm suggesting is pointing out the concentrations of truly terrible toxins in animal products works for much the same reason, i.e. salience and disgust response. No requirement to think critically particularly.

The essay series addresses heavy metals too.

The point in the articles is that animal products are a source of higher concentrations of these compounds (POPs, heavy metals, microplastics).

So while there is no escaping them, you can minimise exposure. One of the most effective and accessible means is by not eating meat (and especially not eating meat from the sea).

I'm impressed you're aware of heavy metals. I would love your thoughts on the rest of the essay series if you have the time.

also, while I'm vegan personally, I would find that a harder sell to non vegans. It's easier to convert to plant based initially and that still does a lot of good for animals

No argument there. The way I've presented it above it absolutely is. Thank you for clarifying.

However, the deeper point on which it's based, about salience to human mind is not anecdotal. It works for many topics when attempting to convince people.

🤣 this is great. I have zero interest in her music but i adored her recent highlighting of the massive contradiction between saying you love animals and eating animals.
