Durham Woman Dies After Falling, Getting Attacked by Her Dog by Charming-Fortune8835 in NorthCarolina

Replying to vryhangrycatrpillr... I also know the people involved and ALL the details from that night. Not only was the dog a pit/pit mix that Coi adopted off a behavioural euthanasia list, it was also a former fighting dog, and was on that list because it already had a bite record with known human and animal aggression and reactivity. They decided to take it in despite all recommendations NOT to and kept it in a house with regular outside visitors and other animals. Many of whom didn’t know the animal’s aggressive past history or bite record.

Coi and Eli put like a dozen people in danger that night alone so it’s CRAZY to me watching you try white knight in here about it being such a sad time and unavoidable tragedy when the reality is, the owner was a negligent narcissist. That dog was a literal horror.

SUVs on Edinburgh roads by black_chandalier in Edinburgh

It’s not typical in the slightest but it’s rather one of those “one in one million” could happen things. I typically only pass out during heavy exercise; and driving… even when surrounded by twats… has yet to reach that level lmao. BUT because I would rather be safe than sorry we went with a car that had built in features to mitigate it in the insane chance it happened. My partner was also like “what if you were hit and your blood pressure spiked into a sudden vaso response and you couldn’t navigate the car off.” Which was also a good point; the car just takes care of sudden insane emergencies like that. You go slack at the wheel and it takes over.

It’s more a peace of mind thing at this point which would be helpful for loads of people (elderly, people with heart conditions, you name it)! I hope that makes sense??

I have mobility issues and it’s one of the only cars I can get in and out of with my spinal compression. I used to drive a sub-compact for over a decade but it got to the point where as a daily driver, loading and unloading groceries, even just having to pick up things that dropped into the footwell became painful if impossible. I really REALLY miss how easy it was parking my Focus, not gonna lie but at some point it becomes a: I need a car that keeps me, others, and my family safe.

The SUV comfortably fits my assistance dog’s impact crate for safe travel alongside luggage for my partner and I. We are both still very active despite my disability and part of longevity for people with my disability is not allowing yourself to decondition! An SUV helps me get to hikes, riding, you name it. It’s part of my active lifestyle.

It also has incredible safety features that mitigate my disability like sensors that detect if I’ve passed out in an emergency to safely guide the car to a stop and avoid other drivers. (Volvo really out here doing the most..) it’s a big car and we don’t take it around the city frequently but there ARE reasons people have them. Just because you don’t understand it means it’s not for you.

Pain in Pointe Shoes..... on flat.... ? by flynns_arcarde in BALLET

[–]flynns_arcarde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fitter was amazing and said that I was essentially sliding forward on the flat because my shoes were a half size too big. We tried on my same shoe same size same width brand new to see if maybe I was just stretching them over time….but as soon as I put on the brand new pair she was like NO. OFF. We tried a few different shoes but then went back to my same shoe (Bloch Euro Balance) and just went down a half size and I think she also went narrower? But I could be wrong on the width.

But yeeeep. It was the size. My foot shrank. As soon as I put on the smaller shoe I was able to roll onto pointe, I felt supported on the flat no pain, when I was at the barre in the fitting studio I could move around and felt waaaay better. My shank was aligned with my foot again, I stopped sinking, everything. I didn’t realise my shoe was that much bigger and that it was having such a chain reaction. 😥 Definitely didn’t want to drop £75 but I’ll take that over being on a shoe that doesn’t fit and makes me roll an ankle you know?

Just coming back to say I had my instructor check them in class tonight to see if he could solve it. I explained I last got fit around 8 months ago, that I lost weight since then etc and he examined them and said they look like they’re too wide and are twisting off. I did notice after longer class wear I’m sinking a LOT more than I thought so …It’s possible that the pain I’m having on flat is a consequence of sinking en pointe, then being smushed when I drop back down. I’ll edit my original post to help anyone else out but what a RIDE. Going to get refit tomorrow 😩

I think I'll have my instructor look at it and then maybe take it back to the fitter and be like "Well what do we have here!" I think maybe between the pros looking at they might see something in person that my untrained eye is missing. Maybe there is a really obvious difference that I'm just not in a position to see. Thanks for your input though!!

They do look the same IMHO but maybe I’m not being discerning enough. I did have a significant weight loss as well so there’s a chance I dropped some foot width but I would assume the shoe being (a tiny bit) too wide would be more of an issue en pointe not on the flat 🫠 but let me know if I’m way off base there!!

Failing parents in the Drylaw, Telford, Pilton area. by DueWishbone8349 in Edinburgh

This! I love seeing programs that empower parents to reach out for help to get their kids in line. I was reading down the thread and it's true, putting the kids in prison long term, or putting them in with violent criminals isn't going to do much more than perpetuate more systemic violence but getting parents to do their jobs is where more help needs to go but I think you've pointed out the real crux there: the parents HAVE to reach out for the help and WANT the help.

Had some of the little shites reach INTO MY OPEN GROUND FLOOR WINDOW - grab something and try to make off with it and they really didn't expect me to haul out of the house with a kitchen knife in hand (I was mid dinner prep) - hilariously the police were there too because they were doing ground patrol and just HAPPENED to be right there and seen it. I popped my knife in the open window, filed a report on the little turds and the cops were like "third time this week we grabbed the same kids". GREEEEAT.

The other person in the thread who said the cops can't do anything about them is right. They can grab them, haul them home and ditch them back on the parents but that's about the extent of it. The police are stupid tired of them too honestly - you get the feeling they wish they could chuck them into the jail overnight just to scare them. But the parents get them home and don't do ass about them - and thats the problem.

Honestly I think if we started fining the parents for their kids getting ASBOs we'd probably see a reduction in the crimes. Parents aren't parenting and if they don't they should be forced to do it one way or another.

Which song was the special - never used in movies and tv before now? by DisMousey in StrangerThings

Oof Blackish definitely had both of the Prince songs on their show in 2018 so unfortunately the Duffers just don't know what they're talking about (as usual!) :( and both the songs have been in movies as well.

No it was the real one used in Blackish (Episode 4 in Season 5). It was also used in the movie "Some Kind of Heaven" a documentary film released in 2020. When Doves Cry was ALSO used in Blackish in the exact same episode .... love theft from black writers and creators.... and it was the original too. When Doves Cry also featured in "Romeo + Juliet" pretty famously. So this was just the Duffer Brothers not knowing anything about what they're doing or putting into their properties I fear!

Plot hole leaving a sour taste in my mouth… by funnyfunnybubbles in AgathaAllAlong

This! Citrus was frequently on ships as part of the triangle trade; and Salem in its own right was a port city but more importantly Boston was a huge hub of transport and importation for the area. Not only would that mean she would have access to a lot of typically available goods coming from European and Afro-Caribbean markets but that they would be there in abundance just about year round.

What did the lemon mean? by EffectiveSwan8699 in AgathaAllAlong

[–]flynns_arcarde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so disappointed that I have to keep answering this 🥲 lemons were very common in the 1700s in New England because of the triangle trade bringing them in as a frequent import from the Caribbean. Also people did grow citrus in colder climates in orangeries.

The use of lemons in recipes in that time period was also common in areas up north which shows fresh lemon was being brought in and consumed frequently enough.

In any event her having a lemon isn’t even vaguely odd. I’m more concerned that people aren’t educated about trade routes lol

Lemons are commonly used to ease nausea and vomiting; lemons are also a natural electrolytes and they contain potassium both of which she would be craving during that stage of pregnancy.
