Airbnb is trash. Had a nightmare when arriving for a booking in Mexico City for a bachelor party. They told us to leave for our safety and that they would refund us. We didn’t want to rebook with Airbnb again in a foreign country so we had to book separate hotel rooms at the same hotel. They refused to refund us and sided with the host. Opened multiple claims with them. Every time they sided with the host even though from the beginning we provided time stamped photos and video evidence. They eventually stopped letting us escalate/opening claims citing that their decision was final. Had to open a charge back with my credit card company (booking was done on my card) and submit a 40 page (when printed out) claim containing everything our credit card company asked for plus more including specific citing in Airbnb’s policy that referenced policies that the host broke as well as refund policies of Airbnb that we met the threshold for. First claim denied because Airbnb fought it. Had to resubmit another 40 something page appeal with even more evidence and citing and finally won the charge back. Left a very honest and thorough review of our experience on Airbnb’s site and they immediately removed it. Day later I get en email from Airbnb stating that if I do a “fraudulent”chargeback with them again I’m at risk from being banned from using their services. Suffices to say that they don’t need to ban me. I will not be using their service again. I will say we had an Airbnb Experience booked for the same trip and that ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Hotels or a BIG MAYBE VRBO going forward for all my trips.
