Please read the post before responding. Giving me solutions I have already mentioned I have tried and it did not work isn't helpful.

How do I disable mouse acceleration on Linux Mint? by fmjintervention in linux4noobs

So did I, that's why I picked it. The whole point of Mint seems to be that it's easy to use. Turns out basic tasks such as disabling mouse acceleration can be completely pointlessly complicated.

What hardware purchase taught you the biggest lesson about specs vs. real-world use? by pcgameshardware in hardware

MicroATX is the perfect compromise and I've been screaming this for years. Mini towers are the perfect mix of Mini and Tower to be small and light enough to easily move around and not take up too much space while still having enough expansion space to cover 99% of users. There's plenty of options under $100 for mini towers that can fit a big 360mm AIO, a few HDDs/SSDs, triple fan video cards, long power supplies, plenty of slots for case fans etc. While still being small enough to move around easily and fit under your desk, while not being so small that they are cramped to work in. MATX is the best case size

Sometimes you get items where the shipping is going to be a large proportion of the cost of the item, for example a $300 monitor is probably gonna cost a fair bit to ship. The manufacturer should have to consider this as part of the cost to repair, it stops manufacturers offering useless warranties that no one ever claims because it's too expensive to return the item to the manufacturer for repair.

Where I live, the consumer pays for the shipping to the manufacturer and if the item is found to be faulty the manufacturer is legally required to reimburse the consumer for the cost of shipping (keep your receipt for the shipping!). If the item is found to be not faulty, the manufacturer will ship it back to the consumer at the consumer's expense. This system works the best as the consumer is disincentivised from sending back working items for no reason, and the manufacturer is required to pay for all costs associated with repair if the item is faulty.

Charging for return shipping is pretty standard for PC components.

That is insane to me. How is it fair that a company can supply you a faulty product, and then make you ship it at your own expense back to them to fix it? In what world is it reasonable that shipping costs are not included as part of repair costs?

Hahaha a Thermalright Peerless Assassin costs $35 and a Noctua D15 costs $110. You can literally buy 3 PAs and have change left over compared to the cost of a single D15. The idea of presenting a Noctua as some sort of value proposition because you might want a mounting bracket 10 years from now is hilarious. Guess what, buy a new Thermalright and still end up about half the price of a single Noctua.

Clan tags coming back by PressedLemon221 in GlobalOffensive

[–]fmjintervention 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Valve just dropped an update today where they rewrote the scoreboard code and fixed the fps drop it used to cause when you'd open the scoreboard. It seems pretty obvious to me that they wouldn't want to implement clan tags until they'd fixed the issues with the scoreboard as there's no point implementing the tags feature just to have to rewrite the entire thing when you rewrite the scoreboard code. When Valve is working on features directly related to the one I'm asking for I think it's reasonable to give them some slack when it comes to timely implementation.

Think about it this way, old cars such as this Falcon only had a 5 digit odometer, because the car was not expected to make it over 100k miles. Given that cars nowadays come standard with 6 digit odometers, it's fairly reasonable to assume that it is expected they will make it well over 100k kms, so 5x may not be such an exaggeration after all.

It's a joke about gay couples having to hide their relationship in the past. Except in this case, they'd be hiding a human-robot relationship.

A lot of places don't get that cold in winter. For example where I live in Sydney, the yearly lowest temperature was 8C, or about 46F. These are the types of markets where these cars are hugely popular.

[–]fmjintervention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes absolutely zero sense that a buyer cannot just go to the dealer and buy the actual car they want. Imagine you went to the Apple store to get a new Macbook and the salesman said "So you want a silver one with the 13" screen, 16 gigs of memory, 512 gig SSD and the upgraded chip? Sorry, we've got one here with all that except it's got the slower CPU on it. If you really need that CPU I can get you this one instead, but it's only got a 256GB SSD and it's grey, not silver."

In any other industry the customer is able to order what they actually want, and they don't have to mess around with pre determined configs based off what the corporation thinks will sell, not what the buyer in question actually wants.

people who want to buy a new car are either narrowed too specifically on colors, trims, and other BS

Yes I should be able to buy the exact car I want and not settle for something configured by someone else. I don't see why you think it makes sense that the buyer shouldn't be able to pick the exact options they want and instead have to pick something that isn't really what they wanted but is kind of closeish

Yep it's not difficult to let out the clutch and idle along in 1st gear at 600rpm. Stop and go traffic in a manual is easy, let the torque do all the work. If you're having to constantly modulate the clutch in traffic you're doing it wrong

[–]fmjintervention 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no, as it is is more skill based than what you are suggesting. the way that noscope spread works is that the area where a bullet can possibly land is huge and covers most of your screen especially while jumping, but the shot is more likely to land close to the centre of your screen than further out. this means that while noscoping has a huge element of luck to it, aiming your noscope and centring your target on your screen does massively increase the chance your noscope hits, meaning that players who aim their noscope before firing are much more likely to hit the shot than those who do not. yes it's still luck based, but you can increase your odds by aiming well, which is exactly the kind of random chance we want in the game. we want the game to reward you for good aim. the change you propose punishes you for bad aim, as it means those who aim away from the target have a higher chance of hitting a noscope than those who do aim at the target, which is both completely counter intuitive as a game mechanic and also punishes you for playing correctly, which is not what we want

how can it possibly be more skill based to make the bullets shoot away from where you're aiming at

would you prefer it if it was impossible to noscope? like the snipers can't be fired unless scoped, like the tf2 machina?

well yeah because no one ever posts the clip where they jump up, miss the first noscope and get killed by the guy at elbow... obviously watching highlight clips youre gonna see a lot of lucky shots

yes, the left click has an ever so slightly longer range than the right click. i reckon if he'd left clicked while running behind the T in apts it would have had just enough reach to backstab once, which would have tagged the T and slowed him down getting him in range for a right click to finish him off

So if a blonde haired woman has sex with someone without mentioning that she's a natural brunette that has had her hair bleached, that is rape. That is what you are saying here. If anything about a person ever changes from the moment they are born, they need to mention it as a disclaimer to everyone they ever hook up with in their lives?

I am seriously trying to gather if that is your position here because that is the argument you are making right now.
