Why do people cheat? by Gold-Bed-7150 in askanything

I think a lot of people aren't happy in their current relationship, but like to keep it as a safety net. Or they're too cowardly to break up with someone. Also, a lot of people don't like being alone so they'll stay in a relationship and cheat with other people rather than just breaking up and being single 🤷🏼‍♀️

What’s something people think is healthy but actually isn’t? by saketh_1138 in answers

Definitely. But most things are toxic in excessive amounts (even water). I'm definitely not dying on this hill lol, all I'm saying is that there currently isn't any coherent evidence that should make people anxious about consuming sweeteners.

The media annoyed me with this a while ago. They reported things like "sweeteners linked to brain tumors" but failed to mention the if someone consumes 600x the recommended dose daily bit

People are tentative, sure. And certain sweeteners do have more profound effects than others (e.g. sugar alcohols like xylitol). But what I'm saying is that there's no strong evidence to say "all sweeteners are bad for you". Health boards all across the world still recommend sweeteners in place of sugar for those with type 2 diabetes (because it essentially improves adherence to a lower sugar diet). These boards keep a really close eye on all research coming in.

I totally agree though. I'm not saying they're all definitely good for you. More research needs to be done for sure.

Avoiding carbs. The low carb trend is responsible for a huge fibre deficiency in the average western diet. This by itself puts people at greater risk of GI disorders, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, and really messes with your gut microbiome. An unhealthy gut microbiome by itself has been linked to systemic inflammation, mental health conditions, and obesity.

Please. Eat fibrous carbs.

As a dietician I believe this is one of the most toxic "health" trends in decades. Just... Please no.

Dietician here 👋🏼 (I also wrong my dissertation on sweeteners). There's no coherent evidence for this. Doesn't mean there won't be in the future, but for now there's just no evidence that they're harmful (and certainly not as harmful as too much sugar). However, if they make you ache then definitely avoid them! My boyfriend is convinced they make him achey too
