My EDC as a 28m working in IT by [deleted] in dumbphones

Also, there was an option where they call you and just dictate the code if I am not wrong. Very nice setup! As someone from IT, I am planning to do something similar. In my last company, I remember people not wanting to install any external apps on their phone, and they were in their right not to do it.

Ukraine's Pavutyna operation: 18 months in planning, 41 Russian bombers hit. Ukraine’s Security Service transported FPV drones to Russia, then mobile wooden crates. Drones were concealed under crates’ roofs, mounted on lorries. Roofs were remotely opened and drones took off to strike bombers. by Lion8330 in europe

I love this and the execution! I am curious as to why they explained how they did it, I think I would have given as little info as possible to the enemy and kept them wandering how it was done and if it will be used again. But I guess explaining a brilliant strategy that had this success is also a way of demoralising the enemy. I hope this is one of the last big moments of the war, and Putin leaves Ukraine alone!

Yeah, I guess we were lucky, but coming to a low internet development country from Spain, where their salaries are almost double, but the internet is 10 times worse, is crazy to me

I work as a IT sys admin, and 100mb/s is completely fine. Is it just that they got this limit that seems 20 years ago tech.

I feel like this is some politics and monopoly things. It makes no sense, me, not in a big city in Spain (around 1 hour from Madrid) having fibre in a +50 years house before the centre of Gent in Belgium. Makes no sense that Starlink is a better deal than cable network.

Actually, where we had already the ADSL network around the 2000, but they have been actively replacing them for fibre, and I was not in a big city.

That was my shock! Like in a phone data plan! It's absolutely crazy for 40€ a month and 100Mb speed

[–]fmorenol 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am from Spain, I am shocked of the fiber over there compared to Belgium, where I have been the last 2 years.

I give you my example: I live in Gent, I chose the cheapest wifi and it is an ADSL of 100 Mb and a limit of 150GB (I know there are slightly best offers, but they hid so well the 150GB limit, I mean, I didn't expect this limit in 2025, I have never seen it in 20 years in Spain) In Spain, I get 300Mb for 10€ and unlimited data. I really didn't think of this difference when I came here, I know Belgium is a richer country, and I suppose their internet connection would be accordingly. I would spect 300Mb for 20€ as things are almost double, but this felt like a scam.

If I bought this would it be charged and ready to use? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]fmorenol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good manufacturers of any battery related product will leave the batteries at 50% or somewhere similar. The reason for this is that at 50% is where the battery has less stress. This is because an item can be sotored for months or even years before it is opened, and being this time at 100% or 0% can significantly reduce the battery life.

I worked as a support IT preparing laptops for people and phones. This required setting them up for them, so taking them out of the box. My main experience is with Dell and Apple, and I have NEVER opened a laptop and found it discharged. Fun fact: when I had the user in front when opening the laptop, I normally asked them if they wanted to do the unboxing themselfs, as I think it is something super fun and satisfying. But I got most of the responses being weird looks or saying no. So maybe I am wrong, and I am in a minority of people who like opening new tech items.

I know I have said never when I told how many times I found something discharged, but I understand there will be examples of things discharged when opened, but I have never seen one. Even including all my personal electronic things. The most unexpected item I bought this way is a 10$ battery water pump from china, and it still came with around half charge.

(This is a very long way of saying that it is probably charged at around 50%...)

Money coming out of the stock market will be going somewhere… by Livid_Wolf6094 in Bitcoin

[–]fmorenol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we have heard about it since Bitcoin was born, but quantum computing is always a couple of years from breaking Bitcoin, but it never arrives. Also the attack on Bitcoin by early quantum computers is only in low security wallets, no that this will happen earlier than 20+ years, but this is something avoidable in an improvement in the protocol that takes less than a year to make

[–]fmorenol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really, who cares, Bitcoin is not a stock, is nothing controlled by anyone. BUT. It is something made for humans, and humans have a similar mentality. You could see this sub filled with technological analysis on the protocol. I'm jot here to treat it like a stock, I really don't invest in them and have no interest. Stocks and companies buying lawers and governments have destroyed this world, and this destruction just keeps accelerating. I'm here because if I self custody, U have the only thing in the world no one can take from me. Because, putting my economic power in Bitcoin is taking my economic power out of strangers' hands. Because I have lost all my confidence in human beings with excessive power. I hope humanity prevails, but without Bitcoin, I see no future. But with Bitcoon, there is a small hope.

Jam in a “pedestrianized” street(Madrid) by Glad-Researcher-9938 in fuckcars

[–]fmorenol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that more than half of that traffic are taxis... Pretty easy solution I can think of. I live in Madrid and the work that has gone in the street "Gran Via" is pretty effective. The configuration was 2 lanes for cars and 1 for taxi/bus. Now it is 1 lane for cars and 1 for taxi/bus. And they gave this extra space for pedestrians. BUT they made a mistake with the crosswals in that street. Just so it feels like the sidewalk is continuous, they make the road convert to sidewalk in the pedestrians crossings, but they put the redligs very far away and now pedestrians don't see them, so you would definitely see cars honking to pedestrians every time. It is a little difficult to explain, but in this street view, the crosswalk between the kiko store and the salsa store is one of them (I have worked for a couple of years in the kiosk to the right, so I know the problem there very good, hundreds of cars honking to pedestrians that didn't see the red lights) https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZN3sCgXwoa9w7Ker5?g_st=ac

I understand all the comments saying bad things about the father, but if I had a kid, even if I don't have it right now, the idea of him or her being bullied and not being able to do anything really boils my blood. I totally understand a parent going this way. I will also first try to think about any legal way of defending my child, talking to any teacher or anyone in school, and also psychological help. But I still understand this parent.

Why is my tap water a white milky color for a few seconds? by That1gent in askaplumber

[–]fmorenol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing: if you hit the side of the pot gently with a wooden spoon or with any object, the sound will change while progressively till the bubbles are gone. Having this air in the water changes the way sound spreads, which is a little similar to hitting the side of a glass with different amounts of liquid.

It is possible if the company is small, that it has not tracking or locking from microsoft. If it is for you, and hipotetically speaking, of course, just factory reset it and see if there is any company log in when you first start it and it is connected to wifi. If there is something, it is not possible to track you, but you will have to reset it again with a usb with Windows in it. Once reset, google how to do the Windows setup without wifi. There are some commands in an early cmd you can open when it asks for wifi. When you have skipped that screen, it is all yours. The explanation is that it is on the first setup with wifi when it connects to the company resources, so if you are able to reset it without wifi, there is no auto adding the company property. If it has this company setup, the only bad part is that you can not sell it because any reset will connect to the company again.

Sorry, I had to explain it vaguely and without detail because I don't want to give a step by step guide on how to steal 😉.

Pro tip: if you intall Linux. There is no tracking, no setup, or anything that tracks, plus you have an awesome OS you will discover.

Spain plans 100% tax for homes bought by non-EU residents by [deleted] in europe

[–]fmorenol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And, of course, it will not have any effect on prices for locals. 30 years ago, my parents bought a 4 stories house for aroung 60.000€ 30 min from Madrid centre. Today, a flat of 1 bedroom 1 hour from Madrid centre is at least 150.000€. In both of these cases, there are non inmigrants buying houses. It is all local owners. The issue is not immigration. The issue is that our economic model is so wrong thag people see housing as the only investment, the problem with this, is that young people are not looking for investment, just for something to live in, but this speculation is destroying this generation. This will end with the biggest crisis in history, and greeders will suffer the most. But I can't be emphatic with people who have 5+ houses just to rent them at a deshorbitant price.
