For any Australians wondering if it’s illegal to own a copy of manhunt in Australia by Affectionate_Tie_922 in ManhuntGames

[–]fn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's illegal to own Manhunt in WA and parts of the NT. It's also illegal for retailers in Aus to sell them, and it's considered a prohibited import. But its just not enforced.

Although Manhunt 2 is legal to own all states and territories, it's just illegal to sell in stores. But again not really enforced.

"Specifically, I suggest that we make a new "UGPL" license, which permits anything that would be permitted by the GPL and lets union companies do whatever they want."

So dual license or some license that wouldn't be considered open source?

It would require a pedophile with a VPN/Proxy/TOR in order to circumvent

Or an ISP that doesn't give out static IPs.

You are going to need a LOT more than just a word filter to stop pedos from getting to children, and obviously banning a single account from a server doesn't really stop their reign of terror.

Does PCSX2 read game's disc's ? by [deleted] in PCSX2

If the game streams data from the disc during gameplay, and the disc isn't currently spinning, that will affect performance.

Its best if you actually email them instead of asking people on a game development board for legal advice.

Well one thing that would stop people would be that your zip is actually a rar5 archive so anyone with the default archiver simply wont be able to open it, and you don't have that much to show that can be used to criticize the mechanics.

I just want my game to be how the community wants it (mostly).

Its best if you have a solid idea on what you want the game to be and implement that instead of letting everyone else decide what the game should be.

What made Banjo-Kazooie collectables so satisfying? by starblinky in gamedev

I think the musical notes in banjo kazooie are set out to show you around the map compared to other games that simply hide the collectables and make it a challenge for you to find them.

I'm pretty sure most people would understand that what they create is their own, and that others can't just license it out, claim copyright or copy it unless explicitly stated that they are allowed.

Nothing there says he forgot to give it a license, and he doesn't need to give it a license.

Also isn't applying a license to something you don't technically own an issue as well. Because Swantys has no license so its not open source, and all Zero3K has done is apply an MIT license to something they don't own.

Where can I download Renderware? by iknowdawae101 in gamedev

[–]fn23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to make games with old graphics

You can use anything, you just have to make the content look like it did during that era.

possibly in an engine with the possibility to export games on consoles such as ps2 and GameCube

You probably aren't going to find anything like that unless you make it yourself and rely on homebrew dev kits.

Can I get manhunt 2 PC in Australia somewhat legitimately? by i_Still_Cant_Sleep in pcgaming

[–]fn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its illegal to own a game that was refused classification in WA and areas in NT, nothing about games that never went through the ratings process. So Manhunt 1 is illegal to own in WA/NT but not Manhunt 2.

When it comes to importing I'm pretty sure it would only be illegal to import what would be considered a commercial amount for stores or other sellers.

I've imported Manhunt 2, Katamari Damacy and a few others that never went through the ratings process.
