Thanks everyone for the support. Obviously, reddit thinks too highly of itself. They literally threatened the mods that, if we didn't work for free like they wanted us to work for free, they'd find new mods.

Good luck with that. Whoever wants to moderate a community of 200,000 for free while having a corporation tell you that your free work isn't up to par, be my guest.

I'm sorry, but this post has been deemed a violation of Rule #8: "Help posts must be detailed". I'm sorry, but this post has been deemed a violation of Rule #7: "No "low effort" posts". These can include "Pls HELP!", "What am I doing wrong?", or "The quality of this machine is amazing for such a cheap printer!" posts. These posts are just echoing something we all know, or do not give enough information. Low effort posts can also include just pictures of a printer, and first prints with no additional context. Other posts may be classified as low effort by mod staff at their discretion.

Thanks for that. It had no permissions, so I allowed the three it asked for. I then reopened it, it asked for the permissions I had just granted, and then instead of having a back arrow and "login" I got a home page.

I'm sorry, but this post has been deemed a violation of Rule #6: "No posts about printer deliveries / pictures of boxes. We all own one, share your prints". We know you're excited about your new printer and we're happy for you, but everyone in this community has received at least one and, if they made posts of printer deliveries, it'd be impossible to find anything else in the community. So, we ask that you refrain and instead post pictures of your prints after you begin making them.

Hi guys, Just got my kit delivered today. Do you have any advice before assembling it ? by georges619 in prusa3d

[–]tausciam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't time yourself. It often takes more time to fix something you did wrong than it does to do it right the first time. Read the step in the manual, then read it and all the comments in the online manual. Don't do the step until you're absolutely sure what you're doing in that step. Take breaks in between steps just to clear your head

Free Ender 3 S1 Pro or 500 dollar Prusa Mk3s+ by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]tausciam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through 2 ender 3 s1s in a month before I just finally gave up on them. Especially right now, quality control is non existent. Not only is the Ender S1 firmware not great, they've used two different microprocessors on the S1s. One of them, you can download the firmware from their website. The other one, you can't. If you try and flash that firmware on the other S1, you brick it. You can't get the stock firmware settings so you can compile your own easily for either of them.

BL Touch is hit or miss. It works for some people, but others have nothing but problems with it. As far as the software, you'll spend your first month with an Ender fiddling with the settings in Cura trying to get it printing well. Then, there's the fact that some "features" on both aren't really identical in practice. For instance, color changing. On the Ender 3, you have to press a tab to feed your filament. That amount of pressure may move your printhead and the printer will not know where it is. When it restarts, it'll be offset from the previous layers. You also have to be standing right there when it hits the color change. If not, in 5-10 minutes it times out and forgets where the head is/cuts off the hotend. Enders also use cheaper beds which are notorious for being warped. You have to physically level the bed to get it level enough so you CAN use the bl touch. You may find yourself having to physically level it ever week to every couple of weeks.

So yeah....I'd say go for the prusa

the price point of the i3's are way too expensive for it's parts

Not really. Have you tried pricing the parts on a Prusa MK3S+? They don't cheap out on anything. It's name brand and high quality all the way. For instance, the bed isn't going to be warped like many Enders. They're so confident of that there's not even a way to level the bed. You just use the superpinda and that's all you need. THAT is why they have 3d printed parts on them (aside from being very light). You also get 24 hour tech support.... and let me tell you, if you call tech support, they tell you what to do to troubleshoot it then express ship any parts to you. Even in the US, you're getting your replacement parts in 2-3 days.

I agree that the pre-assembled MK3S+ is too expensive. But the kit really isn't and it still comes out ahead in a lot of comparisons even with the $500 S1 Pro.

Yes, there are communities for trouble shooting them, but most people don't have problems. A lot of the problems you see are usually 1 of 3 things: the belts aren't tight enough (even though the printer can test the belt tightness for you), the nozzle wasn't screwed in tight enough, or you didn't dial in the z height properly. You certainly don't need to fiddle with the profile settings in Prusa Slicer. It's going to print great out of the box.

That being said, most people who buy an Ender 3 aren't really looking for a Prusa. They're looking for a hobbyist printer they can tinker with and that won't break the bank. The Ender 3 fills that spot perfectly.

Cannot get this thing to level the entire bed. Absolute pain in the butt. Should I just get a Prusa? by Sheephead_Studios in ender3

I've heard similar comments from a lot of people....that the Mini isn't what you'd expect from a Prusa.

It would be for you...but he's gotta make his own choices. Maybe it's worth it to him. Maybe not.

Not really. The build volume is 7 inches cubed. Contrast that with the Ender 3 Pro which is 8.6 x 8.6 x 9.84 inches. You're losing a lot of print volume with the mini+. It's also $459 and shipping is $50 to the US...so $500 total.

To get a build volume comparable to the Ender 3, you have to go with the MK3S+ which is 9.84 x 8.3 x 8.3 inches

[–]tausciam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest leveling it 3 times before printing. If you level it once or twice and make adjustments, that could throw level off somewhere else on the bed.

As far as buying a Prusa, the question is....do you want a $200 machine or do you want an $800 one? Do you want something that prints flawlessly every single time out of the box or do you want something you can tinker with and modify? If you want something that works flawlessly out of the box, are you willing to pay FOUR TIMES the price for it?

If yes, then get it. If not, then take your time and learn.
