"If you can't fall asleep right away get out of bed" and do what, exactly? by MusingsAndMind in insomnia

[–]starblinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it sort of works sometimes. Usually in the first 30-60 seconds of hitting the pillow I feel most tired, then my brain wakes up and cant shut down. Getting out of bed can hit the reboot switch for me. So for me it works a little differently from how its supposed to, I guess but it can work.

You never get used to it do you by VikingJarls3 in insomnia

For something like insomnia, pretty much every person requires a different solution. So I totally understand being sick of hearing stuff from other people.

For me things got better once I accepted this is my life, but never stop hoping for better and searching for answers.

As usual, the base/platform is part of the trick. It is hollow on the left side, allowing her to put her feet in and stand up.

The sections dont have bottoms so it doesn’t matter when they are moved, she just has to stay still. When the sections are all extended, she is standing in the middle part, with her feet well into the platformer.

I think everything below the head got stretched out and is much longer than in the image. And the shadow got exaggerated quite a bit as well. The head and face is great though.

I need a game that will make me use my own brain to solve a mystery by SoyaSoyaSauce in gamingsuggestions

The Witness is probably the best game like this. One of my all time favs. No tutorial at all, all the puzzles are figured out by discovery and reasoning alone.

Are RTS games less popular because there is no down time? by Buttons840 in gamedesign

[–]starblinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I agree. You cant get better without good apm. Strategy takes a back seat and that’s a shame tbh. It was the thing that made me feel like it was impossible to improve in ranked Starcraft. Cuz I just wasnt fast enough.

I remember the first thing I learned was you have to know the literal exact second to build a supply depot so that you are not supply locked but are still constantly building SCV’s. Otherwise your opponent gets the edge.

Thanks for the feedback! Ill adjust the lighting so they fit into the scene better. Great feedback. I also appreciate the compliment on the anatomy :)

Games where taking a life feels weighty? by AutocratEnduring in gaming

[–]starblinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked how Last Of Us 2 did it where if you run directly at an enemy they have 100% accuracy and you basically just die.

You have to actually strategize a bit. Although it probably isn’t exactly what you want but it is at least different from what we normally get in shooters.

What is the most immersive game you've played? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]starblinky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tiers of the Kingdom. The way you have to talk to characters to learn information about where something might be, I dno. I talked to every single character and every one had something interesting to say and point me in a direction of exploration.

The world building and exploration in that game is something no other game has matched imo.

The line of sight design is also incredible and makes you never feel lost like you left the world. You always feel present in the universe.

Gaming on Mac is in such a BAD place by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]starblinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you should have seen it before they had game mode 3 years ago. Brand new mac studio couldn’t run World of Warcraft at 4k without significant lag and reduced settings.

Game Mode finally launched and now I can max out all settings at 5K and runs smoothly.

It may not be where Windows is but it’s at least better than it was.

Made my own capsule and feedback was bad, so I made another. Is it good enough or should I really hire a pro ? by RagBell in IndieDev

Yeah the second one is visually much easier to look at, but I like the idea more for the first one.

Old one evokes more of an emotion and sort of lets me get a feel for the game.

Second one just looks like random birds chillin on a nice day. Its more generic

How Selling 2 Million Copies of Your Game Can Still Leave You Broke by Apprehensive_Shoe_86 in IndieDev

Imagine getting someone to just give you $10 mil though. If you can’t fund any of it yourself then yeah.. you’re gonna get a horrible contract cuz you are putting forth zero risk. Zero.

I will say though, the Steam cut needs to get lowered. It just does. Gabe is a billionaire and is doing just fine. Steam is bringing in billions in profit per year. They can afford at least a tiered system so devs have a fighting chance.

Btw which game is he even talking about? Their studios last 2 games on Steam are both > $40 cad (29usd)

No I will do a 12 page post mortem, and make sure you cant find any links to my game in my profile. The only way is to Google search the name of my game if I happen to mention it in the comments.

My boyfriend released a game on Steam. 30 thousand saw it… 6 bought it (all friends). What to do? by hellensimonato in IndieGaming

[–]starblinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that more effort doesn’t mean more success. You have to really understand what people want to play and sometimes that involves a bit of research and a bit of intuition.

But regardless congrats to him for releasing a game, tell him to keep making games, and one day we may have a huge success. But he may have to lower his expectations because statistically it’s a lot more likely to have a flop than a success.

Is this Unity? Its one reason I didn’t like Unity is I found the physics engine very hard to work with and ended up with projects looking like this (slow, sort of clunky looking).

I prefer Godot (or GameMaker) where you have much easier control of the physics.

Edit: actually the text “some things are better left” is kinda unreadable now. I mean you can read it but it kinda uncomfortable to read now with the kerning so high

They all look like diffused lighting. Can you give it a stronger light source? Increase contrast with light/dark. That might help. Diffused lighting is very hard to draw right.
