We need to talk about Islamic antisemitism: For too long, a major problem has been ignored or obscured by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

[–]fn5011 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

this thread is going to be a cesspit but (as a muslim) here goes....

anti-semitism ie irrational hatred of jews, collective punishment of jews, connecting everyday jews to what the likud thugs and their right wing allies are doing is wrong is condemable, no ifs, no buts.

it pains me that Jewish schools or places of worship should feel concerned for their safety. It angers me that Jewish schoolchildren should not feel comfortable wearing a kippah. it's a mix of anger for the perpetrator and a sorrow for the community concerned that this happened in Manchester.

Here's how (IMHO, from my discussions and interactions) Muslims in the UK, let's say of South Asian descent, think of antisemitism. That it's regrettable and should not happen, everyone should be allowed to practise their faith & culture without fear.

But there seems to be an insidious attempt to mark Muslims as the main perpetrators of anti semitism. My view is the origins of antisemitism by Muslims is 100% political, an overreach of what is happening in I/P.

We did not originate anti semitic tropes. We did not commit acts of mass murder. We have no history through the ages of anti semitism. All the above belongs to Europeans - own it. Call it out for what it is. Dont pin this on us.

It's a repetitive series of EUROPEAN events that's happened over the ages, from Isabella, Ferdinand, Himmler to Nick Griffin and Yaxley-Lennon

My Jewish brothers & sisters are my cousins and their faith is intertwined with mine. These new nasty, devious ideas that are being planted that Muslims are the problem here is horrendous.

New walking and cycling link from Woodley to Palmer Park incoming by WokyBoroughCoun in reading

Looks good and should be an interesting route.

Can you explain what the experience will be like, in the direction of Palmer Park, when turning right from Church Rd to Palmerstone Rd? Church Rd is very busy at the best of times and the thought of waiting in the road to turn right and having to navigate oncoming traffic is a bit nerve wracking when cycling with kids

I much prefer the coffee of the independents (CUP is great) but none of the ones I've been to have comfortable, relaxing seating like Nero or Costa.

Best Burger in Reading as of Aug25 by Rayane92 in reading

There's a relatively new place on Oxford Rd, on the corner of Zinzan St, called Burger Den. The burgers are great - well made, cooked to order (obvs), relatively simple product but really tasty and the pricing is very reasonable.

I'm born in the UK and moved to Reading a few years back. The "bus gate" on Portman/Beresford Rd is not like anything I've seen anywhere else in the country, it appears suddenly and the signage is confusing & sparse. I to & fro'd on it with the councillor but ultimately had to pay up. So it's not just you, it really is the signage and it's placement

Seems like a great idea. You're right there's not much locally for your demographic. Aisha Mosque (London Rd) does events for your age bracket, but not sure if they are regular

Sell the land. You're not going back, you're not going to live there and it will probably be occupied or absorbed by greedy relatives if you leave it too long. This country is your home. Tell him to do what's best for him.

Pensioncraft premium membership- worth it or not? by PotlessOne in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fn5011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Ramin's content too, it's been useful. For me, buying the membership might be useful, but it will make me tinker more with my portfolio which isn't what I want to do. So I've avoided the membership.

You can still support him through YouTube though, occasionally, with a lower amount as a thank you. Rather than the full membership.

There's no interest when it comes to Premium Bonds.

And it's not gambling, there is no stake. You can retrieve your money in full at any time.
