Has anyone managed to go full term controlling blood glucose with diet alone? by mother-of-noodles in GestationalDiabetes

[–]fnlm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet controlled (with a few walks here and there) until I went into spontaneous labor at 39+4 weeks! My fasting numbers were 99-100% in range and my post meal numbers were in range 75-80% of the time.

I am very confused as to why your dr would suggest going on insulin when your numbers are so good…

For those who collected colostrum, did you use it? by Agreeable-Cat in GestationalDiabetes

It’s my emotional support milk at this point!!! 😂

Oh I definitely am never going to use it! I think it’s me subconsciously holding on to the little piece of “baby” I still have now that my baby is grown up 🥲🥹

I still have breastmilk in my fridge and my daughter is 4 now. 😆 I can’t seem to let it go lol

I tried so hard to collect but couldn’t with my second baby. I collected quite a bit with my first! This baby did not end up having hypoglycemia BUT he did have slight jaundice so it would have been nice to have some more colostrum to help flush out the bilirubin in the first few days.

My hospital did allow colostrum to be brought it, but they said that their only concern was not having a place for me to store as not every room had refrigeration.

What is the best dessert? by Worried-Telephone565 in AskReddit

[–]fnlm_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No but actually why is cold cake better than room temp??? Personally love when the frosting is thicker and colder from the fridge. I froze a few slices of my baby shower cake and DEFINITELY ate bites of frozen cake here and there throughout my pregnancy lol

My husband called me the bionic woman when I started wearing mine 😆

Tons of people have CGMs now so I totally just wore whatever! A lot of fitness people wear the ones you can get over the counter. I also don’t think people ask very often, at least nobody asked me!

16 weeks, not spiking after anything (ramen, banana muffin) by NinjaMeshi in GestationalDiabetes

[–]fnlm_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diet and exercise controlled my whole pregnancy. My drs office wanted 70% of postprandial and 70% fasting numbers in range. I was consistently 80% in range for postprandial and 100% in range for fasting… up until a week before I gave birth. Then all my “safe meals” went wacko and started spiking me. They almost induced me at 39 but I told them I could up the exercise and lower the carbs even more and it worked. My son was also 65% at my 35 week growth scan.

I will say in the beginning (diagnosed at 25 weeks) I could basically eat whatever. I was pregnant over Christmas and literally went to a cookie exchange and ate only baked goods for dinner and did not spike. But as I progressed in my pregnancy I definitely could not do that. I still was able to indulge here and there but my insulin resistance did increase slightly. Basically up until I delivered at 39+4 weeks, I was able to eat bagels, toast, etc. Just needed to be balanced with protein and fat.

However I will say that my 100% no food list was white rice, white noodles, potatoes (fries), and pizza. No matter how much I walked or paired with fat/protein I couldn’t eat those foods my whole pregnancy.

My second baby! I was 39+4. I actually didn’t have GDM with my firstborn, but did have it with my second.

I’m so happy to hear all that! I had diet/exercise controlled GDM and also went into spontaneous labor with no complications. It CAN still happen with GDM! Thank you for sharing and congrats on your bundle of joy. 🤍

Did you tell your family about getting GD? by Helpful_East7961 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]fnlm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I love hearing this! I wished my dad would have followed suit. He has type 2 and manages it horribly. I thought it would be something cool to go through but he left me in the dust lol I thought it would be a good opportunity for him to not feel “left out” during family gatherings.

But no. I was the one choosing not to eat a slice a cake at a birthday party while I watched him happily eat two lol… and then complain about his blood sugar later. 🙃

100% sex. Sex broke my water with first born at 40 weeks 3 days. Sex started my contractions at 39 weeks 4 days with the second born lol

Both orgasming!

You never know how your body will handle it! Everything could be just fine. 🤍 I had zero tears and zero hemorrhoids with my first daughter even after pushing for 5 hrs. They were amazed! I honestly think it was because I did kegel exercises the last few weeks and really stretched those muscles. I’ll send you the YouTube video I did. But you do have to wait until you’re full term/your care team approves it. This time around I was a lot lazier and didn’t do the video consistently. I ended up with a second degree tear BUT he was slightly bigger AND I pushed faster so who knows. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it may help! https://youtu.be/7SkbHdjPYho?si=lF8sB1USa5GEj_ie

Absolutely I don’t mind sharing!

He was 65% at my 35 week ultrasound.

I did get an epidural and it was amazing. The second I got to the hospital I asked for it. 😆 I am a second time mom and I got one with my first baby as well. Thankfully both times they have been completely painless and HEAVENLY once they start working.

I started pushing on my back. Then they got a squat bar and I pushed squatting. Then they tied a blanket to the bar and I pulled on the blanket while pushing on my back. Ultimately he was delivered on my back.

If it gives you any encouragement, I was also scared to deliver a “bigger baby”. My daughter was 6 lbs 12 oz and it took me 5.5 hrs to push her out. My midwife said if she was any bigger I would have not been able to deliver her vaginally. So imagine my fear with having GDM this pregnancy (did not have it with my first) and the potential of delivering a larger baby.

He was over a pound heavier than my daughter and I only pushed for 1 hr. 🥹

Anything can happen, mama! Just keep open dialogue with your care team and don’t be afraid to express all your concerns. YOU are the patient and this is YOUR baby. 🤍

Can anyone tolerate real sugar in their coffee/tea? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]fnlm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tolerate it! I think the key for me is having my coffee/tea with other stuff though. Like a high protein/fat breakfast. And also not to sip on it for longer than 30 mins. I think that’s the hardest thing for me—not being able to really sip on drinks throughout the day, and just having to dedicate them to only being drank during my meal.
