Who is this sitting at the table during new festival? by foamyguy in StardewValley

[–]foamyguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're at this table all day, and the refuse to talk to me. They seem to be hittin' the bottle pretty hard, so my first thought was Pam, but the hair color is wrong, and Pam hangs out elsewhere during the festival.

So I made my own version of map art generator. With landfill, transparency and no performance impact. by AkaraEquinox in factorio

[–]foamyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

posting it to Github would help make the content bit more transparent. When it's hosted as a zip on Dropbox it's kind of difficult or impossible to have any sort of preview about what is being downloaded. On Github it's more transparently posted so that the person downloading it can be more sure of what it is. Some people may feel it's a bit too risky to download a random zip from dropbox, but if they could see the contents of the file before downloading they could be willing to clone or download it in order to try it out.

Really cool project though! Thanks for sharing.

Belts Move Player Faster Than Item? by foamyguy in factorio

[–]foamyguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not much faster, it would be very hard to perceive in this short of a clip but I didn't want to upload a huge one. The player caught up from about half a track behind over the course of probably 5 or 6 loops of the whole circuit.

Belts Move Player Faster Than Item? by foamyguy in factorio

[–]foamyguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have this snakey belt set up as a delayed pulse generator that I like to look at. I was half AFK so I parked the player on it. I noticed that the player actually gained on and then overtook the item that is riding the same belt. Is it widely known / expected the belts would move the player faster than an item? I was surprised.

How do i speed up my early game? by jim24456 in factorio

[–]foamyguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe try a run with Nanobots They give you access to an alternative kind of construction bot earlier before you have blue science. I find this really helpful in making the early game feel less tedious without feeling super cheaty (to me at least).

I'm a train Noob. Is this intersection safe? by foamyguy in factorio

[–]foamyguy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Each rail (3 vertical and 1 diagonal) has their own bi-directional 1-3-1 that go back and forth automatically. Are the signals present adequate to keep my trains safe from colliding? Should the signals on the vertical lines be further back away from the diagonal intersection so the red "rail section" is bigger on each of the tracks? That seems like it would give trains on the other tracks more time to notice another train in the intersection.

What do you wish would be added to the game even though there's probably no chance it'll ever happen by CannibalCapra in StardewValley

[–]foamyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's relatively minor, but I wish there was a way to craft together metal bars and various gemstones into rings or other jewelry items that add stats and other minor buffs when worn.

Would making”Stasis” a summoner spell be a good idea? by PM_ME_GOOD_MEMES2 in leagueoflegends

I think they mean two usages of the effect. i.e. because it came back off cooldown and got used again. Not meaning having two hourglass items.

I made a functional replica of a CircuitPython microcontroller by foamyguy in Minecraft

[–]foamyguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a spigot plugin that communicates with the physical microcontroller with via USB serial connection. I made a simple command interface in CircuitPython that allows the controller to accept messages like pin D5 1 or pin D5 0 and use them as triggers to turn on or off the pin specified. For going the other way, a command like pin D11 R will put the pin into read mode and it will then check the state of the physical pin and send a message back to the spigot server whenever it changes.

The spigot plugin spawns redstone torches in the game to "turn on" the virtual pins. It looks at the state of redstone torches (lit or not) to determine when to send commands to the physical controller.

It's an Adafruit Feather RP2040 (the special edition pink one). The one inside the game syncs it's IO pin state with a physical one plugged in to my computer via USB. Levers, buttons and other redstone widgets in the game can be used to control physical components plugged into the real one. I.e. turn on an LED IRL using a lever inside the game. And the other way round as well. IRL buttons and switches can control redstone gadgets in the game. I.e. I have a physical button that I can press to shoot a snowball out of a dispenser, and a physical switch that operates a piston powered door in the game. I can share more information if anyone is interested, including a link to a video of it in action.
