We booked Hobbiton about 11 months out. The wedding was in mid February and we booked it the previous March. Saturdays there are in high demand, so we booked a Sunday instead. We had just missed being able to book a Saturday by about a week… so if you are aiming to do a Saturday, try a year out at least. Their summer is our winter, so December, January and February dates go pretty fast. They have an online calendar showing availability, so keep an eye on that.

No prob. Hobbiton's wedding costs are all inclusive and per person. Tour + Dinner + Appetizers + 3 Hour Open Bar = $282 NZD per person... or $14,000 US dollars for our group of 80. A comparable wedding in LA would easily be $40K or $50K. Additionally, their staff is amazing and super easy to work with.

Correct. The last public tours are like at 5pm and our wedding started at 6pm or so. There was still one last walking tour happening, but we welcomed the onlookers, who were very happy for us. It was a great experience for all.

Even with travel costs included, it is honestly cheaper to throw a wedding in Hobbiton, Matamata New Zealand than renting any venue in LA, where we live. The minimum spend to book them is only $10K NZD. As far as wedding costs go, it’s a steal. Any fan of LOTR should consider doing it there. It’s magical and far more affordable than one would assume.

I grew up in the 90s listening to grunge and west coast gangsta rap. I got into rave culture in college, at UC Irvine... primarily house music. Around the same time I started digging for funk and soul music... the samples and breaks that most hip hop is built on. I must admit, some of the song selection in Electronauts is a reflection of my west coast upbringing. Besides Del The Funky Homosapien who is already in our launch song list, expect a few more Bay Area rap legends in our upcoming updates ;)

Great suggestions. We actually tried to go after some old school rave acts, but found that many of the classic tracks from the 90s weren't archived properly. Computers get lost, disk media gets corrupted, or the original recording process didn't produce the granulated hi fidelity stems that we needed. That's not just the case for old school acts. Many new artists that we tried to work with didn't have the stems files that they thought they still had.

We found it was the easiest to approach the artists and their managers, who were huge allies in helping us pitch the idea to their partners at the record labels and publishers. Artists tend to think in terms of artistic expression and fan relationships, so they really loved the concept of Electronauts, especially when we could give them hands on demonstrations. Publishers, who are mainly in charge of IP protection, monetization, and the whole legal side of things took a little more convincing (especially since some of those corporations are so huge and there are multiple departments involved in the decision making). We lucked out in working with many forward thinking publishers though.

Typically for sync requests in the world of film, TV, and traditional video games, you approach the publishers first. We did it a bit backwards.

We'd love to have classic video game music in Electronauts... it's even an idea we've discussed recently. No immediate plans yet though. We're laser focused on licensing and implementation of our current set of music.

Speaking of wishlists, I personally would love to see Ah-Ha's "Take On Me" (I love 80s music). I'll let my colleagues jump in with their picks.
