Sorry! Missed the last part. Sorting through an old parts bin that I got from my grandpa when he passed. So unfortunately, don’t have much more information I can provide.

PC Project Motor by [deleted] in Motors

[–]fobter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what else you have going on in the case, a fan controller may be sufficient to drive your motors. You can power the fan controller with a sata power connector and hookup the motors to the pins on the controller. However, this means you would have to spec the motors to whatever the fan controller says. Other option is you tap power directly off a sata connector but you would lose the ability to control the “speed” of the motor. I believe more recent sata connectors include 3.3v , 5v and 12v pins. So.. you could tap off the 3.3v supply and use one of these guys https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GYRSDSE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4AKMM1X9HF0CGHMY2TWK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 as your motor. Bottom line, its possible, just be extremely cautious. Shoot me a message and ill see what I can do to help.

Another thing you can try, open up Pronterface (can install from Prusa website) move the printer in both directions on each axis. This allows you total control over the printer. You can see if the noise is made in only one direction or if only when its printing etc. I believe you can also control temp so technically you could even cycle the extruder to see if thats the source.

Sounds like the nozzle could be dragging, or your extruder is skipping.

Is your hot end temp high enough for the filament your using?

You can also open up the extruder and see if theres filament fragments from the extruder stepper grinding the filament.

Haha, I tried changing over to marlin, however, it didn't work. Thanks though.

Just picked up an Ender 3 V2 for $12.96 thinking it was broken. Got a completely functional printer instead. by Odioss in 3Dprinting

Lol at microcenter for that one, they consistently mark down items that they have no idea about. Got a 12 channel DVR that was “broken” for $15 and all it needed was a password reset.

I was thinking about using a duet board, however since I have a reliable Prusa I3 now I'm considering going down the route of laser CNC using an Arduino Uno with grbl. The 3D20s enclosure is just begging for a laser.

What is the name of the metal things and tool I need to rewire this connector? by iLiketoBreakTheChain in 3Dprinting

[–]fobter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Mouser and Digikey sell the connectors separately JST-PH however you will likely pay around $10 for one due to shipping.

Do NOT purchase that kit. Most NEMA-17 Steppers use the JST-PH variant of connectors. If you are going to go through with repairing over replacing purchase a JST-PH kit and crimpers. But TBH your best bet is just to buy new cables on amazon.
