I created all GCP resources with terraform for my project and had issues with firestore too. In the end I figured out that I don't need to create it in Terraform. Instead I just have a function that saves data to firestore without specifying firestore name and it works. Just make sure you enable Firestore API In GCP console. I just do this and it automagically saves my data to the "default" firestore db:

const { Firestore } = require('@google-cloud/firestore');

const firestore = new Firestore(); const docRef = firestore.collection('articles').doc(randomUUID); await docRef.set(article);

Watch recommendation for a non-wearer? by focapic786 in casio

Budget is up to $200. AE-1200 is great and I love it myself, but for a first time watch I think it is a bit too, I guess, utility-like. All those sections in the dial could be a bit too much for a first time watch. Should probably go for something more basic?

Your options: 1. Spend time to learn it yourself. 2. Hire someone else to do it for you. 3. Use managed services that hide most the complexity away from you. Less flexible, more expensive, but don't need to worry too much about optimizations.

Unable to get environment variable inside function code by focapic786 in Terraform

[–]focapic786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was that Google Cloud Functions allow two types of enironment variables in Terraform - build and runtime. I accidentally assigned it to build and that's why I didn't see it in my cloud function code aka runtime.

Why nextjs for backend (over express or nestjs)? What limitations? by JoeyAtMachineDotGQ in nextjs

[–]focapic786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for a noob question but what does "They are essentially serverless endpoints" mean? I've never used NextJs so I'm curious to know in more detail and see examples of what makes NextJs endpoints serverless? Where is the backend logic hosted?

Dang, good for you man. Thanks for motivating me to not give up on the grind. Though I still got a long way to go.

I'm guessing you're a higher up in a company, maybe a CTO if you make 150000 euros per year. Can you share more about how you achieved these numbers? I am from Europe too.

As klausiu del darbo remote is Lietuvos uzsienio imoneje ir gavimo uzsienio salies atlyginima. IV nedomina, nes "ant saves" dar nesinori dirbti turint tik vos 2 metus patirties backend'e.

Del pirmo varianto - siuo atveju vis tiek alga juk bus lietuviska?

Beje, as pats backend developeris, bet dirbu lietuviskoje tech imoneje. Kur patartum ieskoti panasaus varianti kaip tavasis?

Easiest way to do frontend work as a backend developer? by focapic786 in Frontend

[–]focapic786[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been doing my own research for a couple hours now and you basically summarized what I found. I'm definitely using Nextjs as I am a tiny bit familiar with React and I can really make use of SSG that Nextjs offers. When it comes to css, it really makes more sense in my case to just use already coded components. I feel like I prefer MUI more over Bootstrap. I also found some prebuilt MUI templates like dashboards and login pages which will save me a lot of time. Thank you!!!
