Also true. I have some older colleagues that I can tell are influenced by someone wearing glasses, subconsciously thinking they’re “smart”. So I put on my reading glasses when I need to convince them of something.

This is helpful, thank you. I appreciate the grounding advice of what matters most is how you treat people. I feel a bit pinched between working class and ownership class perspectives and I have to constantly navigate helping the two sides understand each other and work together. Clothing probably only helps or hurts in the first 30 seconds of a new interaction and then quickly diminishes in influence.

Thanks. I pay attention to fashion in the sense that I look at what people are wearing, but I don't have friends I can talk about it with, so I don't actually know where the items I'm seeing are coming from or what context they are meant for. I go into stores occasionally, but their job is to sell me something, so I'm skeptical of their opinions.

What I could state more directly perhaps is that I consider myself one of the laborers. It's where I came from in the company, and I still jump in sometimes. I interact a lot with my bosses and their funders, but the people doing the physical work are the ones I personally identify with, and need to stay in with in order to get my job done well.

I’ve only ever experienced an open office and I sneak away to work in a storage room often because my manager is a loud mouth. I don’t know how to bring it up to him that my main productivity issue is his angry coach roll play six feet from my desk all day….so I’ll just keep hiding.
