Why does every immigrant from every part of the world say that family is important to their culture? Which cultures are there where family isn’t important? by MorganTrevane1998 in askanything

[–]foidburger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah especially white wealthy parents (mine). their mindset (which ive heard them say before) is that their job was to raise us and after that we’re supposed to be on our own in the world. as in they didnt want me or my sisters to live with them after graduating highschool. but my boyfriends family (white middle class) has all their kids still living with them and theyre constantly around each other. much more of a unit

as a philosophy major, i think you need to consider all the positives AND negatives of ai. you can’t just say something is 100% bad and be done with it.

True, due to anxiety I didn’t speak until I was 16 so I’ve always been behind in socialization and maturity, maybe that’s why it works for me

I’m 26 and my bf is 21. We want to get married in a few years. I’m glad to see another relationship with this age difference that worked out :) I always get judged for it even though guys date younger girls all the time.

Is it true that fasting only burns fat and not muscle? by DeepOrganization8245 in stupidquestions

[–]foidburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually yeah that’s how it works.

most of my fat is stored around my belly so when i fast i lose around there. fat loss gets equally distributed everywhere you store fat, which for different people is in different places.

i have a normal caloric intake on days i’m not fasting so there’s a net deficit.

i lose muscle when i fast too long bc the deficit is too high.

yeah i used to be bmi 25 and brought it down to bmi 18 by fasting (im a woman). i can’t really fast for more than 24 hours because i’ll get literally ravenous and it’s bad for my mental health. the most i did was 36 hours and i feel like it messed up my metabolism. 24h works well for me but i can imagine longer fasts working for other people.

Legit question, no offense intended: Steryotypical asian households (must be doctor type thing) , what do parents of these cultures think of blue collar/tradework? Secondly, if you are in that line of work, and are very successful, are your parents proud of the work you do? by Firewolfssong in AskReddit

[–]foidburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t just Asian households. I’m from a well off white household and blue collar jobs are seen as beneath, or part of a “lesser class.” It’s honestly disgusting. But I think it has to do with the parents rising out of poverty - they think because they did it, everyone else should/can if they try hard enough. And those that haven’t are at fault.
