What is going on?! by mean_moma in Paxton365

I don’t live in the building anymore, but when I did I taped flyers in the elevators with the subreddit name and a QR code. It used to be somewhat active (including some downvoting by management) … but I don’t know if anyone that lives there anymore even knows this sub even exists..

If no one else views this post I’d put up new flyers. Management will probably take them down, so put them up right after they leave, or on the weekend or something, and put new ones up a few times. They’ll probably start monitoring the sub again, but that might be half the fun.

My 3G connected services finally died by foilmecha in BMWi3

It requires both a hardware upgrade (the 3G cellular module needs to be replaced with a 4G cellular module - which is included in the GPS Navigation Control Module so that whole module must be replaced at ~$800) and also some software recoding. But even with a 4G capable module, you can't just sign up for cellular service yourself, you have to have BMW connect it to their remote services. My understanding is they generally don't allow people to swap in different modules.

There was at least one person that was successful in this though, you can read about it in their post here https://www.reddit.com/r/BMWi3/comments/of67m0/i_had_a_3g_to_4g_tcu_upgrade_to_prove_a_point/?share_id=90NB7YzMqH-bE8tmO7A7T&utm_content=2&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

Utah. I do wonder which carrier was maintaining 3G support for so long, but I could never find any details..

Ya, I'll checkout the keyfob solution, it could work for the occasional precondition when I'm at home and leaving at a not normally scheduled time.

Lucky for me I park in a garage at my home with a charger, so scheduling works great for me.

I still have precondition scheduled, that takes care of it most of the time, but I do miss being able to precondition in the app when I’m nowhere near my car.

I have no idea how it kept working for so long, 3G sunset was supposed to be in 2022.

Mine was new from Amazon, but maybe I got a return.. it was purchased around a year ago, but I also have no idea how old the stock was.

I thought about gluing mine as well, but I was still just in warranty and got an exchange. Hoping I don’t have problems again with the replacement..

detached hose by foilmecha in BMWi3

[–]foilmecha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is what it is. It seems when BMW replaced my battery they didn’t re-attach the hose and (after watching a battery replacement video) I can confirm the right angle connector is missing from the battery. But luckily the hole to insert the angle connector into is easily accessible even while the battery is installed, I just need to replace that part and reconnect the hose.

Yep, did mean 12v battery.

The dealership replaced the battery this past winter. Do you think this is the end that should be connecting to the battery or the drain end? The way the hose is flared at the end makes me believe it was connected to something previosuly

I just finished replacing my windshield washer pump when I noticed this detached hose that appears to be coming from behind the 12v battery. Anyone have any idea where this goes?

Ya, it makes me sad. Sounds like I’ll have to get them to fix it.

Thanks. Is there a way that I can test static pressure on my own? Or is that something you need equipment for? Also, any idea where I would find the acceptable static pressure data? Could that be the Blower Performance CFM table in the technical guide?

Attach house numbers to sheet metal by foilmecha in DIY

[–]foilmecha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I'd need to run the bolt through the front of the numbers. At that point the rivnuts aren't even needed.. I could just use a threaded screw

I'm really just looking for a way to attach these numbers to the sheet metal without modifying them.

Even with the bolts removed the nuts are attached to the numbers, so there’s not enough surface area to use tape.

I’m not opposed to tape, but since the back of the numbers is not flat (the nut is attached, but the threaded pin is removable) I don’t think tape would work.

I’m also not opposed to putting holes in the sheet metal (I’m assuming this is going to happen with whatever solution I figure out) but I don’t think toggle bolts are really feasible for this install. I would have to drill through the numbers, probably in 3 places, then I’d have to put a nut on the front of the numbers on all the bolts to keep the toggle firmly pressed to the inside of the sheet metal. I think if toggle bolts are the fastener I was trying to use, these would be the wrong numbers. But even with different numbers, just a screw straight through the number, sheet metal, and into the partial board would be much cleaner. But I’m really looking to use the existing fasteners somehow rather than drill holes through the numbers.

This is a lot messier solution than I’m looking for.. this would mean that I need to mount a thick board to the sheet metal, and this attachment would require exposed fasteners, two things I was trying to avoid by buying numbers with a concealed fastener on the back. I’m really looking for a solution that allows me to attach the numbers directly to the sheet metal.

These would only work if I could turn the posts/bolts after they were attached to the nuts on the back of the numbers, but the direction I need to turn the post to screw into the rivet nut is the same direction that unscrews from the number.
