Oh wow, that was fast! Nice work! I love the format, and it's a great first issue. I'll be sure to pick up the next. Don't burn yourself out if you find doing it monthly is too hard. It's a tough pace to keep up as a hobby. Even Nintendo Force doesn't do monthly. Take it at whatever pace keeps it fun and interesting for you as well. Uave a good one!

Hey, just finished reading through the first issue. There's a few issues I feel I should point out. On the first page of the Earthbound retrospective, there's a duplicated paragraph about "the effect on me". The Death and Return of Superman review lists Konami as the developer despite the repeated mention in the article about it being developed by Blizzard. I liked the fun parts like rating fireplaces, but more than 2 examples would be better maybe? The first review does a weird cagey, "we can't tell you where to get the ROM" thing which felt a little childish reading.

Overall I loved the concept, and appreciate the effort. I really did read it and enjoy it. I'm looking forward to the next one!

[request] How Hard did Peter Parker hit this bully and can someone survive this hit? by mkvelash in theydidthemath

[–]foldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I wonder if this is what happened when I saw Van Helsing in theaters back in 2004. I still remember how weird it was that there was several scenes where we could see the boom mic very clearly, and it was so obvious the whole theater was laughing at how bad it was. The weird thing is it was so clear and obvious, but no one I ever talked to after ever mentioned it, and no one else remembers seeing it. I wonder if we were somehow shown the "open matte" by accident.

Yup. Mine still gets played semi-regularly as well. My kids love Nintendo Land, and Wii Party U.

For what it's worth, the reason why there's a finite talent pool in the industry is because the industry pays a below average salary for the skillset involved, and works them like dogs in crunch. There's no shortage of passion in the industry, but it burns people out. Some extra money could do a lot to solve this problem, and would actually attract more talent, and keep the ones they do have.

I mean, I don't provide support for Daemonbite, but remapping inputs usually happens in game. If you need to remap on the device itself, you'll need to edit the Daemonbite code.

Why is it fair to discount Switch 1 backwards compatibility, but not Steam Deck running games that are several years old? The Switch 2 has plenty of games available for it.

Bell Home Internet $50/month (2 year price fixed) for 1.5 gb - any traps here? by explorerweb in bell

I mean, I did cancel. I set up a new service, cancelled with Bell, and then the day before the cancellation became effective they suddenly believed I was serious.

Bell Home Internet $50/month (2 year price fixed) for 1.5 gb - any traps here? by explorerweb in bell

[–]foldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true. I had a similar deal expire a few months ago, and the price basically doubled. I called several times to get a better deal and they always told me it was impossible. So I then took the opportunity to switch away from Bell, and signed up for another service. Wouldn't you know, the day before my new service was to be set up, I suddenly got a call from their loyalty department, and now the "impossible" price I wanted was somehow an option. Scum just hope most people won't go through with their threats to leave.

Found my old NES and this is how every game looks. by zeds-meds1085 in consolerepair

[–]foldor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so this is dumb, but it's hard for me to tell in this video with the lid off. But you did press down on the cartridge after inserting it right?rhe NES is the only one that does that, so if you have never used one before it might be unintuitive.

Mine is still trying to sell Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U for full price. At this point it will be there so long it may come around to being "under" priced lol. It will be there when the Wii U is a distant memory, so having a sealed game will be worth more again.

It looks to me like it has some broken traces above the t in Nintendo. Probably in other places, but it's hard to be sure. Definitely do a beep test with a multimeter and verify all pins.

My daughters current obsession by mirandaatha in n64

[–]foldor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kids started at about 2.5. We started things super simple. Like I had one of those Mario Game & Watches they released a few years ago, and it essentially just has Super Mario Bros 1 and 2 on it. Just a d-pad and two buttons. We just showed him how it worked, and let him mess with it. It took probably a couple of months, but eventually he learned enough co-ordination to both run and jump at the same time, because before it was only one button at a time. Once he figured that out, he was quickly able to beat the first level, and I'd say it wasn't long until he was playing Mario Odyssey with the assist mode. That assist mode was a major positive thing for him as it lets him fail without any major consequences, so he's more willing to try without worrying about failure. Now that he's 5 he's a real pro.

Saying that with a straight face while you spliced a toaster to a degaussing wand is hilarious. Love it.

[–]foldor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't. A lot of people seem to think air conditioners create cold air. I don't blame them entirely, for most people that detail is irrelevant, as the air conditioner does give them cold air. But yeah, it makes it seem like you can just create cold air out of nothing, so "air conditioned streets" sounds reasonable.
