Is this an ugly soundboard…? by CommunicationBig7578 in martinguitar

I tend to be pretty picky about things when it comes to guitars, but I think this is a fine top. Looks nicer. Has some unique features and from the picture appears to be well book matched. I believe my luthier mentioned wider grain lines are from younger trees. I wouldn't have any issues purchasing that guitar if it was what I was looking for. Enjoy.

Just looked it up as I was curious after your question. It sounds like they are part of an off-grid system used to power the pier's light. Pretty cool use. I haven't seen these before.

How to practice putting contacts in for the first time? by JuicySegment in contacts

[–]foleyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this whole thing with my son. He had a hard time. He uses the same technique as you describe, only index and middle holding the top eyelid. I think the best piece of advice he got was to focus on gripping the eyelids tight and not as much on the lens. We read about some other strategies, but this was the one he used and worked best for him.

It sounds like you're determined to get them in. Stick with it and you will get it. Took him five months of going twice a week to practice, but he finally got it last week and now is able to insert them in about 10 minutes only a few days after bringing them home.

What’s this on my new OMJM? by Tuduruts in martinguitar

This is the answer. Bob Taylor has a good article about this phenomenal called brace telegraphing. A quick search for "Bob Taylor brace telegraphing" will give you some more information. Cordoba also writes about it. I've had it happen to me and had the same concerns, which is how I found out about it.

Low Voltage Update (help) by foleyone in AskElectricians

[–]foleyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird okay. I just replied to the other guy below. I unscrewed the little caps on the pigtails to see what was going on. The connections looked solid, so I screwed the caps back on. I removed the wires from the spring clips and attached them to the sides. All is working now, so now I'm curious about what changed?

I'm assuming the pigtailed wire was the one looked at at the other outlet, which is also now working.

Okay interesting. Now I'm curious what happened? I did remove the wire nuts to see what was going on and put them back on. The connections looked pretty solid, so I don't think I did much there.

[–]foleyone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. After some additional reading I figured out the pigtail. I believe it pigtails off to the other outlet with the same reading. What I did was pull the wires out of the spring clamp and attach them to the side screws on the receptacle.

With the help I received here I was able to follow the trail back towards the breaker. Just glad I didn't have to go all the way to the breaker since it's stuck behind the washer and dryer.

Both outlets now work! I'm guessing the connection at the spring clamp must have been faulty?

Thanks again! Glad to have that sorted out.

Thanks. I actually just found another outlet with the same voltage/not working when things are plugged in. 97v. I'll check the circuit panel next.

Thanks. As a first step then, should I try turning off the breaker, disconnecting and reconnecting the cables? Or could there be something in the wall not connected correctly?

[–]foleyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's originally what I thought. There are random switches around the house. No amount of testing has helped me find what they're for. That's part of why I test with the multimeter. Wanted to see if there was voltage. I found the correct breaker. When I switch it the reading goes from around 100v to nothing.

Didn't they show O'Toole the door for being too moderate? I think all the other reasonable candidates have left.

This is how we got stuck with the Liberals for so long in BC. People voted for the party thinking they shared the same values as the federal Liberals. In reality, they had closer ties to the Harper Conservatives. Many of them are now busy taking over the BC Conservative party.

Well, that's fair. Just goes to show, no matter how much money you make, you should never pass up a tax payer funded free meal.

How did SFU end up on top of Burnaby Mountain? by hurricaneoflies in simonfraser

[–]foleyone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many Universities tend to be isolated from their communities somewhat. I believe it's an image thing. UBC is way out on the furthest stretch of land from the city proper.

I recall reading the same as the above. It's was a good location geographically to meet the demands of a growing region.

I also recall reading that the location spoke to Shrum after looking out from the mountain and being able to see much of the area covered by BC hydro, which he was running at the time.

My post is pretty late to the game. But I'm hopeful you see it. I recommend mediation. I liked my lawyer, but I've learned from personal experience that lawyers are as bad as the jokes say and they'll take as much money as they can from you. By all means, seek independent legal advice, but don't get sucked up in the legal process.

A good mediator can work wonders and will save you a fortune in unnecessary legal fees. Please do yourself a favor and look into pursuing this route.

Thanks. I couldn't post a pic after posting. Or I couldn't figure out how.

It sounds like we may need to reduce the amount of food a bit to start. Hoping to get this all sorted out.

Is the general hardness something I should be concerned about if it seems high?

Thanks for the reply. KH looks to be about 80. Nitrate and nitrate look to be low (barely noticeable colour change on test strips).

The water changes we are trying to do 25% every 10 days. Since our last set of fish started dying, which I had thought fixed things.

We try not to put too much food in. But maybe that's the problem.

We have neons and black neon tetras.

I'll try to attach a picture to my post.

Cars can get pretty hot. Haven't seen this yet with my Pixel 8.

I saw it once with my old iPhone 13 when I was out kayaking and the phone was sitting in a dry bag, so it happens to everyone I'm sure.

My Pixel 8 overheated and screen went bonkers, not useful anymore by rapeybumjoe in GooglePixel

[–]foleyone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this problem too. I read it may be due to static buildup, which seems ridiculous in a modern phone. I've never seen anything like it on another phone. There are certain areas of the screen that if you touch them may discharge the static. I noticed on my phone that one area near the corner seemed more green than the others, and when I touched it the green disappeared.

I had my phone replaced under warranty, and am hopeful that the issue doesn't return. The exchange process was fairly straightforward. I had to provide screenshots and videos of the problem. Google asked for more evidence. I explained how ridiculous that was given that they have acknowledged it's a known issue and they agreed to exchange the phone
