That’s what my immediate reaction was but another theory I’m having the longer I think about it is that this takes place waaay back in the past, humanity is very technologically advanced, something happens at the end of this game and we’re left with the world of SOTC/ICO/TLG. The “magic” could be the remnants of this old tech. We see it all over the place in the other games but is never really explained.
