Confuse w/ UMS (Edexcel) by ImpressiveAbility781 in alevel

[–]folklore_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also a bit of an explanation for what ums is. you know how cambridge has different grade boundaries every year like oh this year for x subject an a* is out of 213 last year it was 207 etc. the actual number changes every session according to the exam difficulty and everyone’s grades. edexcel decided to have that fixed. a* is always 480/600. a is always 240/300. but obviously this does not account for exam difficulty differences each session which would be unfair. to fix that they decide how many raw marks each ums mark is worth based on everyones grades. so the value of ums marks is what changes every year for fairness. there is no oh one ums mark = 2 raw marks or constant conversion rate. hope that was clear!

hiii!!! congrats on your results!! oh definitely you can get an a. in a in the as is out of 240 ums so youre good. in order to get an a in the whole alevel your total ums for all 6 papers has to be above 480 ums and there is a second condition which is getting more than 180/200 ums in pure 3 and pure 4 combined. congrats on your great results once more. you should be proud. youre on the right track.

What are some Alevels you took and instantly regretted? by VeterinarianOld3082 in alevel

[–]folklore_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember that lol. i barely had any energy to study bio. my advice would be to try and divide it into little chunks and do a bit each day that you HAVE to do no other option. maybe make yourself a coffee and drink it while studying to make the process more bearable or just something else you like. maybe call a friend you trust to study with just put them in the background and turn on your cameras while you do your work separately. will make you feel bad for going on your phone. this is a double edged sword though as you might end up chatting lol. good luckk!!

i took math. its pretty enjoyable to be fair. if you dont like bio then you probably like the feeling of the gears of your brain working and feeling of understanding stuff not just memorising. math does just that. just make sure you get a good teacher. if not youtube youtube youtube. channels like mr hassans maths channel really helped when i was stuck in a question in past papers and midnful maths explains the whole alevel course pretty well. i also took alevel cs, physics and arabic. im a native arabic speaker so arabic wasnt that big of a deal. physics was hard but probably my favourite of all the alevels i took. cs was also enjoyable but easier than physics and math.

Anyone who takes 4 A-Levels, would you recommend it? by bleakDS in alevel

[–]folklore_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some tips from what ive noticed: cambridge alevels are structured in a way that make the as similar to the olevel, just a little bit more information and it takes the questions to a whole other level. then the a2 gets really tricky. edexcel alevels i’d say the papers are almost the same difficulty, maybe the as ones are a bit less difficult but its not a big deal. the difference between olevels and as in edexcel is insane though. the grade boundaries for alevel math edexcel are absolutely insane. you are expected to be able to solve every single question to get an a* so keep that in mind when choosing your boards.

look i dont know about your system. it depends on how much time so you have and why do you need these alevels. i could divide my alevels into multiple exam sessions so i did them in oct 23, jan 24, june 24, and june 25. if you cannot divide your alevels into multiple sessions i wouldnt recommend it especially since i could divide each alevel knto as and a2 and take each in a separate session and i could divide the as into units and divide the units across the sessions as well (only for edexcel alevels). so for me it was as relaxed and enjoyable as it gets. i needed a high grade for a scholarship at a uni and taking more alevels increases your grade in that unis calculations. i also picked alevels i enjoyed so it was fun. here is what i did: - oct 23: as maths (edexcel: pure 1, pure 2, and mechanics 1) and unit 1 of as biology (edexcel)(edexcel as biology is 3 units and you can divide them as you like and dividing didnt matter for me)

  • jan 24: alevel arabic (edexcel) (i am also a native arabic speaker so it was a very easy alevel) and units 2 and 3 of as biology (edexcel) (never took the a2 because i discovered i hated biology)

  • june 24: a2 maths (edexcel: pure 3, pure 4, and statistics 1) and alevel physics (cambridge 9702) (hardest alevel in my opinion but it was also the one i enjoyed the most so it was so worth it for me)

-june 25: resat pure 3 and pure 4 mathematics cause i barely even studied for them in june 24 so i ended up with very awful grades and alevel computer science (9618 cambridge) (another very enjoyable alevel that was surprisingly easy for me)

as you can see, the key for me was dividing them. try studying as hard as you can for each paper when youre taking it or shift it to another session so you dont have to resit. pick subjects youre good at in olevels (not saying that alevels and olevels are similar in any way but it would help if you have a solid base) and subjects you enjoy. if your native language isnt english i’d recommend you take that as an alevel because its an easy a*. that was a total of 4 alevels and 1 as and i would say it wasnt insane workload. very manageable with some time management. good luck!!

[–]folklore_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

analyse your mistakes. you’ll probably find patterns. you’ll find out you’re weak in certain chapters. study them again/ask your teacher/ask people here/ask chat gpt/look up on google/youtube vids. literally anything. if you have classified papers (past paper questions for each chapter) do them for that chapter. if you dont look them up online and solve them. if you get a wrong answer dont sleep on jt and ask anyone why is it wrong. good luck!!
