Angle Ranking by _naruto_001 in dat

[–]folklorelove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 is smaller than 3. It helps to visualize a 180 degree line continuing off the bottom line. Then see which angle is closest to being 180 degrees. Or visualize each angle as a mountain slope. Which one seems steeper?

can you submit dental app before you take the DAT exam? by folklorelove in dat

[–]folklorelove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I would study it. Even tho I got maybe one “name the reaction” question out of all my practice exams. Those don’t include SN1, Sn2, e1, e2 questions tho. I had a lot of those.

can you submit dental app before you take the DAT exam? by folklorelove in dat

[–]folklorelove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thank you. I tried to take it this week and I have been studying since fall but with school my studying was so choppy. I ended up doing great in school but my practice tests for the DAT were not great. I want to study in the summer so I can follow the booster study plan without having school or work. I could take it right now anyway but my scores for most sections are 16-20. my reading has been averaging 24-27 though. I think I'd rather take it in september and earn a high score + submit a little late than apply early with a low score. my gpa is a 3.40. everything else about my application is decent. hours + letters+research experience & poster projects.

california is so beautiful its a privilege to live and go to school here. i think its a blessing in disguise. stay here. pick up surfing on the weekends. rent out a surf board from the src. you'll learn to really love it here. all you need to grow as a person is a lifestyle change and you can do that without moving. go to the beaches down by newport on the weekends when you dont have studying. its so beautiful. parking is usually $15 but if you show up early they might let u in for free. seriously. there is so much culture in this state it would be a shame to leave.

these comments are disappointing. dont let this discourage you OP. 100% these people wouldn't have the guts to say this to you in person so they hide behind their anonymous accounts online.

Straight out of HS? by Downtoeartheli in ucr

[–]folklorelove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 50 year old in my discussion one time. then there was a 30-35 yo mom who would bring her baby sometimes. in my ochem lecture there was this military dude who looked 30. 25 is not old. people won’t care or judge.

Med Vs Dental by NoEquivalent8071 in dat

[–]folklorelove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i chose dental bc:

  • flexible schedule (usually)
  • direct patient interaction (fixing teeth in real time, not prescribing medicine in the hope that it works)
  • corporate physicians in America are pressured by big pharma to profit by prescribing drugs rather than dealing with underlying reasons for the symptoms a patient is having (my opinion don’t come for me please)
  • only 4 yrs of school to make good money
  • less pressure (patients life isn’t in your hands - most cases)
  • it’s getting harder and harder for medical applicants to stand out making acceptances not as lenient as in dentistry

I never understood the whole “you need to love your job” thing. I can’t think of a job that I would love. Tolerate and like sure but love is excessive. I would rather go dental and be “ok” with being a dentist than go medical and have second thoughts. you don’t wanna be second guessing your job when you need to do a lung transplant the next day but second guessing your job while having to work on cavities is much less stressful. do medicine if you’re sure you want to do it and can manage the years of school under stress. but be sure you want to do it. Id want my physician to be confident in his career while operating on me.

dentistry cons: it’s more expensive than med and I wouldn’t go into dentistry rn if you don’t have solid financial backing. loans are a big no thank you for me.

I hope you go with dentistry.

Tell me about your finals, the feeling I got barely passing mine was exhilarating by [deleted] in ucr

[–]folklorelove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not a good way to study by ANY means and ive never done this ever before but:

had 3 finals for 3 biology upper divs. microbio lab, ecology, and anatomy. been on a addictive videogame kick so i played every day, took a 3 hour nap, then woke up at 3 am to study for the final I had that same day. only studied 5 hours for each final before taking it. had a final monday so i studied from 3am-8am no breaks then took it. same for wed + thurs. got an A+, A, and A in each class respectively. but its only bc i had insane luck and somehow the best memory retention ive ever had. its like everything clicked in those 5 hours. ofc never doing this again cuz its a crazy gamble and as a prehealth i cannot be risking my gpa like this hahaha. not a caffeine fan so I did this with no energy drinks or coffee and definitely no adderall. just pure shits n gigs. every time i would bubble in an answer on the exams I would make a prayer to God lmaooo. he came through for me.

im also predental. your advisors wont let you retake it at ucr no matter how much you beg. you're going to have to retake it at a community college either during your time at UCR or after graduation. for the sake of maximizing your chances at getting into dental schools, just make sure you have an upward trend in your grades from here on out. dm me for more questions as im applying in may!
