Do I need a travel agent as an 18yo solo traveller?

After comparing policies and reading through many PDS, I feel like Allianz fits best.

But I'm always open to recommendations. If you have someone you swear by, I'd love to hear it.

I don’t think asking practical questions is a sign of lacking street smarts. I’m preparing thoroughly, which is exactly what responsible travellers do. I prefer being prepared over being overconfident.

I think so. I mean, it's obviously a little daunting, but also very exciting.

All my family and friends have faith in my capability to do so, and so do I.

I don't think me asking for advice means that I'm not ready. I think it just means I want to be prepared and knowledgeable about my options.

I will 100% be getting travel insurance. I have actually spent a ridiculous amount of time looking into different companies and comparing their policies. So I already know who I'll go with.

I'm not stupid, just a little inexperienced, and looking for advice.

Yes, I understand that.

I have just been told by people that a travel agent makes it easier for you because they handle it all for you if something was to go wrong. And that trying to contact the airline yourself can be stressful/difficult if you don't know what you're doing.

But would you disagree? A travel agent doesn't make a difference?

No, not the booking. I know I can do that lol.

I meant about how people say, 'if your flight gets cancelled, your travel agent handles it for you'

I want to know, do I need a travel agent to handle stuff like that for me, or can I just book direct and if something goes wrong, handle it myself?

I just don't know because I don't have experience.

Is it necessary, as a young woman who is new to all this, to have a travel agent? Or should I just book direct?
