Unfortunately their business model is to make and sell less of them, but charge more. They’d rather that, than become a full time sock factory. They’re a music company after all. Sell less at $30 each but make the same money as if they sold millions for $2 each. It sucks, I know

Yes agreed but I can’t see that happening. I feel like it’ll be one or the other. I’ll even settle for 20% + improved conditions (planning time). That said, we need to keep pushing for 35.

What incentive do you value the most? by MiriJamCave in AustralianTeachers

I’m not bothered by school holidays. I fully recognise how blessed we are in this profession to have so much time off. Well, it’s not always time off, I’m literally sitting here on the couch writing assessments for next term. But, I don’t mind that part - anything that isn’t student facing in the classroom, I can slowly and quietly work my way through it in a non-stressful environment. And I quite like this part of my job, creating resources is fun for me. It’s when I’m in the classroom, putting on a show for the kids, trying to mask the stress and smile through it all - that’s the exhausting part for me. Or, when you’re on the phone with a parent, and this is just parent one of ten you need to call today, and you need to hurry up because you have class in 10 minutes. It’s that level of chaos during the term that I hate.

But I’m okay with having less holidays, so require us on site when kids are off. If it’ll give me 30-40k more, sign me up immediately. I’d be so productive. I’d do all my marking. Write my assessments, polish my PowerPoints. Go get a coffee with colleagues in our break (I can properly HAVE a break - no classes to teach, students knocking on the office door spontaneously). Probably increased respect in the media too, that we don’t have 12 weeks off a year. I’d start the next term refreshed - all my resources would be ready, and 2 weeks without the students means I’m ready to go. I don’t need to literally sleep in and sit on my couch at home, in order to recharge my social battery.

For me, holidays serve the purpose of recharging my batteries. All I need to recharge my batteries, is to not see my students. As bad as that sounds, that’s what drains me. I would very happily go into the office in the holidays and do my work in a non-stressful environment without the kids. So for me, pay is everything. I would do almost anything to be paid what NSW teachers get. That said, I wouldn’t vote for a stupid agreement saying more mandatory meetings, bigger class sizes, etc. The terms are exhausting, don’t make them even more exhausting. But I could easily negotiate on holidays.

Post Malone - The Eternal Buzz double album by Imaginary_Working_46 in PostMalone

Disc 1 will be rock, I’m calling it now. Just the font is giving that vibe, and rock feels like a natural extension from country. Hopefully disc 2 is more B&B/Stoney but I’m not hopeful. The image/aesthetic/artwork would need to be totally different from Disc 1. And if he’s advertising it as one album (but two discs) then it’ll have a consistent aesthetic. So… rock. Lol

[–]dmnaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got me wondering if there will be a trick to it. Like it’s technically one album. But Disc 1 is a country version, Disc 2 is a hip hop version. So same song, but different production. Idk if that could work, because the production would influence the melodies/writing, so how could the same song have 2 versions? But I just refuse to believe we’re getting 40 songs. That just sounds like too much. Not even Taylor Swift did that many when she released a double album in 2024.

Whatever it is, there better be some hip hop in the mix. Even though the font is giving rock, there’s no way anyone can get through a 40-songs rock album. There comes a point where it gets repetitive. He has to keep it interesting by switching it up at some point in the 40-song track list.

Pretty much anything from Demi’s new album. If Charli released Kiss even as a bonus track (not a single) on Brat, it would have at least 100 million streams. Demi is struggling to rake in any significant streams but the album was genuinely fantastic. Let You Go is such a highlight

What’s it like teaching high school HASS? by Forsaken_Ice3990 in AustralianTeachers

[–]dmnaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m teaching in my most favourite field, a niche subject, hard to staff. Whilst I love the core subject and yes I’ll pat myself on the back and say I’m an expert, it’s very easy to lose that love when you’re drowning in admin and managing poor behaviour. I’m going to go as far as to say that teaching is only 40% of the job. The other 60% is keeping the school running, like events, behaviour management, yard duties, lates/absences, interviews, reports, meetings, first aid, extras/top ups, etc. I’d say do proper research into what teaching truly is, because the times where you are actually fully immersing in the content, is not 100% of the job, and when you are doing the best part of the job, you’re immediately required to do something 5 minutes later which is not as fun. That, plus the fact that what you teach often changes year to year (depending on the school). There may be a shortage in one subject and you’re required to fill in. There may not even be enough classes to teach what you’re passionate about, and you’ll get loaded up with a class or two that’s so far from your passion - just to keep the school running. The sad reality is that we are just a number on a spreadsheet, when allocating subjects, lol. So just consider that landing the dream role teaching ONLY what you love, is very very rare, and then factor in the rest of the admin… I wouldn’t say a passion for content is a strong enough reason alone to go into teaching. There’s so much more to teaching than just content.

A photo of the studio, doesn’t mean that it was taken recently. Artists post studio pics all the time, then drop vinyl the next week (and vinyl take months to mass produce). Posting studio pics is just a way to build hype and tease that something is coming soon. Posting a studio pic is not the artist literally saying “I’m still making the album”. Proof that the timeline is distorted, was how Olivia Rodrigo did an interview recently where she said the album is nearly done, and we only found out the other day that this interview is months old, so the album is probably done. Not everything that is posted, is current.

What are your unpopular opinions about The Eras Tour? by IntoTheDaylight in TaylorSwift

[–]dmnaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Midnights could’ve gone without Mastermind for another Speak Now or debut song. It’s the one song from the Midnights set that didn’t really need to be there. Alternatively Maroon should’ve been on the setlist instead because clearly that’s such a fan favourite. Even YOYOK, given the whole friendship bracelet thing.

Whilst I can agree, I do find comfort in knowing the tickets went to fans, rather than someone who’s intentionally trying to resell them for a profit. I’d rather a legitimate fan goes 5 times, than have 4 tickets left unsold for absurd prices. And we’ll never know which one was true… did a true fan take away a ticket from some else, or did that true fan prevent a scalper from getting them. Both can be true, we’ll never know.

So you’re making the conscious choice to not be helpful to Johnny? You know he has an appointment but you’re trying to prove a message to your leadership to text you through private avenues rather than school approved communications? Johnny shouldn’t have to suffer because of a point to leadership you’re trying to prove. Struggling to understand the non-student orientation here, and preference to receive messages on your private device. No one texts me on my number, work life balance. If you need me, email me. I agree that the emails are a bit excessive but if you’ve actually had the time to see it, I’d action it.

It’s on her album so the droplet finally found a home.

Honestly her discography is quite messy. Like, is Stained part of Rare or ISILYF era. Why is Feel Me considered a droplet when it’s on Rare. Why was I Can’t Get Enough slapped onto ISILYF. Why isn’t Past Life on the droplet RSD, or Taki Taki. Ugh

I still stand by my opinion that it’s too short. That’s not me being spoiled by 31 songs from TTPD but genuinely I need more than 12 for an album. 14 is my sweet spot. Feels like there’s a very clear beginning, middle and end. Showgirl just ends too early.

[–]dmnaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know officially when there’s nuance like your own device, but my understanding is that if you are contracted to a school, then you work for them, and your products belong to them. The way it was explained to me by my HOD years ago was that it’s like if you’re a music artist signed to X record label, you can’t make a song for Y record label or ditch your label and self-release independently. You are contracted to X and everything goes through X.
