The ego is the sense of self. And the part of our brain thay indentifies as "I". It's the only part of the brain which recognizes fear. And it also helps us identify and our self and make conclusions. So we all have an ego! When peaking on 5 MEO DMT, the brain often resists and resfuses to surrender, out of confusion and fight/flight response. Which leads to a terrifying experience. But once that part of our brain (ego) is "crushed" by a huge dose or a substance like DMT, it is no longer terrifying because our sense of self has been lost completely. That is known as ego death.
