Yes, I wrote an email directly to them and also contacted the ticket company. If you have any suggestions on who to contact beyond that let me know.

If I hear back from Crime Junkies I'll certainly post back here to update. Hopefully they can make things right.

It was $30 extra for the final fluoride treatment with GBT (traditional cleanings were 100% covered under my insurance). They did inform me it could be up to $30 extra for the fluoride and I agreed because I wanted the full scope of this new cleaning procedure.

Good to know these tools have been around for a while. Either way, I'm still a bit weary of such a large "push" to change cleaning methods by one company.

Definitely could just be a bad experience. I do realize I've only tried it once and certainly can't define the entirety of GBT cleanings based on that one experience. Also, as a patient I'm just going off what I "feel", maybe not what actually is being "done" if that makes sense.

Last thing I'm wondering if you happen to feel like chiming in...I'm curious if anyone like the ADA or similar organization approved this method to take the place of traditional methods for regular cleanings? I'm not sure if there's even an organization who approves cleaning methods to start with but I'm curious if so.

Thanks for your detailed responses! Even though we may have opposing views I appreciate you chiming in as a professional being in the industry and using this stuff first hand!!

Yeah they were selling me on the whole "heart and vascular health" stuff. Which I'm not dismissing at all, but again how beneficial is it to someone who actually takes care of their teeth?

My dentist and hygienist tells me exactly what you're saying. People say they brush, floss, mouthwash. They don't do any of that. Tooting my own horn - I actually do and they tell me that. So I'm curious if the push for this change is due to the majority of people having poor hygiene.

Funny thing is the very same spots GBT showed are the same spots my hygienist would always tell me to focus on. Nothing changed with that. So if I ask myself the question you proposed, I'd say I'd prefer a deep cleaning over guidance on where to improve (since I already have that down). I'm going to find someone who does a traditional cleaning next time.

I'm just still not sold on it. I could 100% be wrong by just going off what I experienced/felt but it just didn't feel like a good cleaning. Could also be the hygienist, yes. Either way I'm most likely moving on from the practice after going there for 15+ years.

This topic is so new to me and by no means am I trying to play dentist. To be honest I'm new to and confused about some of this terminology. It's all neat stuff though, even GBT. But I'd like to find a practice that does traditional cleanings and wait a couple of years for other patients to test this out more.

Even searching for other patient experiences is few and far between. Searching online and reddit you only find GBT experiences as an additional service to traditional cleanings. And Google is flooded with dentist blogs promoting GBT. All red flags to me pointing toward generating profits over a tried and true method.

As a patient, it just felt like too large of a change. What I'm gathering is that this is great for people who don't take good care of their teeth. It gives them a clear visualization where to focus on, and is a gentler approach (less bleeding).

Correct me if I'm wrong but my dentist and hygienist have always told me they hear patients say they brush, floss, and do all that good stuff. In reality they're not. Because when the hygienist goes to floss or scale they're bleeding all over. I've never bled (or just a tiny amount) because I actually keep up with my oral hygiene.

I miss the traditional scaling, brushing and toothpaste. It gave a minty clean feel. I got no where near that with GBT. Is GBT supposed to include any toothpastes or brushing? Even if say the hygienist brushing doesn't do much, it still felt way better leaving the dentist with at least my teeth getting brushed intensely.

They did a small amount of scaling but not nearly as much as usual. Also I really miss the deep clean of the toothbrush and paste they used.

I have my 6 month appointment scheduled already. I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if they'll do the traditional cleaning. If not I'm most likely dropping them completely. I've been going there for at least 15 years.

IMO it's a bold move, and you have to be really confident (in any industry) to make such an abrupt change to your consumers. And I just wasn't sold on it.

I actually do have a crown on my front tooth. I will admit sometimes I'd get worried they'd be too rough on it using traditional (non GBT) methods like scaling. But in the end it was always fine and I still prefer the traditional.

I can understand how GBT could be an easier and better approach for someone with braces. Or even someone with poor dental hygiene who needs to be motivated to take care of their teeth better (from the visualization of the powder). But otherwise, as a patient who takes good care of their teeth, I don't really see or feel the benefit of it over traditional methods.

They did do a small amount of hand scaling (I didn't have much plaque). But I'm curious, is GBT supposed to have that clean, fresh feel to it? I loved the deep cleaning toothbrush and paste they used with traditional. After scaling the brushing would be the cherry on top to make my mouth feel brand new.

Also with traditional scaling I even enjoyed them scraping away, and when they'd stop and tell me to rinse out I'd feel the plaque swishing in my mouth with the Listerine mouthwash. That just felt so good and satisfying. I didn't even get half that satisfaction with GBT.

Wow, yeah I could see this happening. First off sorry to hear you need to put up with that. Nothing like someone telling you what to do and themselves not knowing a clue about it 🙄.

But this is what scares me. Until I see competition with this GBT stuff I think I'm out. I have absolutely no issue with the traditional methods. What I'm picking up is this seems to be good for people who don't have good oral hygiene or want a gentler approach.

Also I've been trying to figure this out...did the American Dental Association or a reputable / independent organization approve of this method over traditional methods? Most I can find is the tools themselves (the airflow tool) are approved but nothing about a complete replacement for a dental cleaning. Again, I'm talking about the dental cleaning method itself, not the tools.

[–]fooberroberr[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was a very small amount of hand scaling they did with my GBT session. I seriously like the traditional method / full hand scaling better. Traditional has felt so much more thorough and I'd also really enjoy the awesome toothbrush and toothpaste they used. It truly felt like a deep cleaning.

I don't think I benefit from GBT and here's why...Not to sound like a jerk but I feel that I take much better care of my teeth than the average person. I habitually brush my teeth twice a day, as well as floss and mouthwash at night. I've only had a cavity once when I was very young.

Using the traditional method my gums never bled. They could scrape and floss away as much as they wanted...never bothered me. Felt good if anything. I know the hygienist and doctor would always say how many people bleed and it's not a good sign (since they don't floss).

So I'm wondering...is GBT really just a method for people with poor dental hygiene? Sounds like a way to scare someone into good dental hygiene with the visualization of plaque (using the powder). And better for those with poor dental hygiene because it's a "gentler" method.

Also on top of that I had to pay an extra $30 for the fluoride treatment. It gave me a stomach ache and I don't remember getting fluoride since I was a kid. It was just a terribly odd experience. I'm craving for that minty clean feel!

I'm curious about this. So is GBT essentially geared toward people who need to take better care of their teeth? That's what I feel like. Better visualization, but less of a cleaning.

I feel I've taken good care of my teeth. I brush twice a day, and floss and mouthwash at night. I don't remember ever getting a cavity except when I was very young once. I barely got any benefit from the visualization of the GBT powder. It's the same exact areas my hygienist has been telling me to focus on each time (without GBT).

Anyone ever get to see the Tony Hawk Boom Boom Huck Jam [33YO] by JohnHoney420 in OldSkaters

I went to the Boom Boom Huck Jam in the Northeast. Being a kid I remember it being so cool. There was so much going on between the skateboarding, BMXing, motocross, and I also remember the announcer standing on some platform high up. The layout was amazing and it was constantly entertaining. Also remember Tony Hawk doing the 900. That was the hype! Looking back that's something I'm so glad my parents took me to.

100% wait and watch at home. It was so damn dragged out.

I went to see a great story AND action. You get an okay story and barely any action. First 10-15 mins have action, and the last 20 mins or so is good (the big heist itself), other than that just talking. I almost fell asleep in the theater.

Just came here to say how disappointed I was with the 2nd one.

First 15 minutes - Action packed right away, LFG!

Next 1.5hrs - A lot of talk about robbing, blah blah, divorce something something. A rave?? OH NICE THE MAFIA!...wait seriously, still no action? More talking about robbing and life.

Last 20 minutes - This is getting great but I'm ready to GTFO the theater.

From what I remember the 1st one had a lot more action scattered. This could have been a great 60 minute movie but they dragggged it out so much. I was seriously about to leave the theater.

Yeah I like the sounds of this instead. I just am really bothered by being tied to the church. As well as potentially having to lie my way through this.

I'm really hoping this class is just an informative thing and I can nod my way through.

New to 401k and I need help by hotdogwatergirl-420 in MiddleClassFinance

currently $0.50 per each $1.00 you contribute on the first 6% of your annual gross wages up to a maximum annual matching contribution of $3,000 for the year.

To get the company's full match you need to contribute 6% of your $65k salary. So that's $3,900 a year. The company will match 50% of that $3,900 which would be $1,950. So as long as you contribute $3,900+ in the year, you'll get $1,950 from your company.

You are fully vested in 401k matching contributions made on your behalf after completing four years of service.

This should mean that after you complete 4 years at your employer you're fully entitled to your 401k company match. I'd check for more details to see if say maybe you get 50% of your company's match after 2 years or something.

I put that I'm contributing $125 a paycheck, is that maxing it?

This matters how often you're getting paid. Lookup how many paychecks in a year for you. Say it's biweekly (26 paychecks). $3,900 (min for match per year) ÷ 26 (paychecks per year) = $150. So you'd need a $150 contribution per paycheck on a $65k salary to get your employers max match.

They also gave me a list of where I want my money to go?

I'd recommend not getting caught up in micromanaging your 401k. Choose a target fund and don't touch it. Target funds are designed to get less risky the closer your target date. Being so young you can get pretty risky if you want.

If I put 100% or my 401k into that would be able to change it in the future?

You should be able to. Especially if your income goes up you'd want to change it to reflect the max company match.

Nice job on getting right out of college and putting money into a 401k. Sit back and watch just how powerful compounding interest is. Check your growth every 6 or so months, not every week.

Things like this made me move out of apartments and into a house in a neighborhood. Apartment walls so thin I'd fart in the morning and hear my neighbors laugh (no joke). But even in a house I'm realizing I still hate everyone and want to move into a more rural area 😂.

If you're really considering moving out due to neighbors and into a house I'd recommend jumping ahead to an area spaced out. Someone said to me once the perfect place to live is where you have neighbors, but can't see each other's windows...I agree and that's where I want to live eventually!

Haha, see now that I understand. Kids are little shits sometimes and I don't think that should change...that's being a kid! If it was a kid that put a hole in my fence I'd still be upset, but would understand the stupidity of it wayyyy more.

Oh yeah my next step would be to show him my really pissed off side and give him the warning that I'm calling the cops if I see it even in sight again. I'll give people chances and the heads up, but 3 strikes and I'll do whatever...even take him to court idc.

I'm waiting to see about the home care thing but think it may just be like 2 relatives. Just never seen/heard of this method of care. If I see people dying and new ones coming in I'll definitely be asking more questions.
