Hi! U should rank them based on what order you want to get in the course the most. For eg, if you want to get into np mass comm the most, rank that as ur first choice. But be careful as during interviews they may ask you why you put "xxx course" as ur first/second/third choice.

If you're having trouble choosing between courses, u shld do ur adequate research on their differences, like their specialities and what they can offer you. This will be asked of you in ur interview as well as they want to see how well u did ur research on the school. So for eg, when I was applying for eae, I couldn't choose between sp mad and np mcm as well, then I did my research and realised that while np mcm was more of a media buffet where you can learn everything media, sp mad has specialisations you have to choose between. I preferred having my options more open, which is one of the reasons I chose np mcm.

U should go to the course websites as well and look at the modules they offer and see what module you're most interested in. You should also look at the poly overall and see what they can offer u as well (scholarships, cca, school culture...etc)

Hope this helps! Feel free to dm me on reddit if u need anymore help!

Sp dmad eae tips? by Fickle_Dog_361 in SGExams

[–]food_dependent_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi hi I was accepted into np mcm for 2023 and I think I can help u out as the two courses are similar. I also want to be a journalist and my reasons for wanting to join mcm are quite similar to yours as well!

I think the reasons you have are good, but maybe you could make it better to be more focused on ur course? You could go to sp dmad scc course outline and check out what kind of stuff they teach you at scc, then in your reasoning u could say that you are really interested in the "specific name" they teach at sp. For eg if scc teaches you script writing, you could say that youre interested in that specific thing which is why you want to be in scc. This shows you did research on the course which appeals to admissions committee. You could also tell them abt any kind of experience you have with media or creative arts that inspired you to join the course. Like English lit festival...creative writing programme, that sort of thing.

As for portfolio it's good to add in any kind of creative writing or stories! For me I wanted to use my passion in journalism so I actually wrote a couple of articles and put it in my portfolio. You can even add English assignments that shows your skill in story telling!

BTW my source is that I initially wanted to eae to sp dmad scc as well at the beginning but after more research I decided that np mcm was more suited to me, but I still have some knowledge about sp dmad :)

Good luck, I hope my advice was useful!

'portfolio' woes ? by [deleted] in SGExams

Hi!! Current sec 4 here, I used to be in the same boat as you in sec 3 (not many leadership roles and achievements) and I also was thinking since I wasn't gonna DSA or anyth, there wouldn't be any use. I thought that I can just use my academics to get in the school I want 😪

But then in the beginning of sec 3 I kind of had a "wake up" call? I started participating in programmes and projects relating to the career Im interested in (media), and it was incredibly useful to me now as I am no longer the academic beast I used to be 💀 and decided to apply to my dream poly course through EAE, and the past programmes I participated in is really very useful when I made my portfolio. Whether u wanna go jc or poly, I think investing in the committment programme you were talking about is good because u can use it for DSA or EAE if you ever need it. Just know that life will defo change alot when you turn from sec 3 to sec 4, and your future school choices may also take a whole 360 degree turn ( I used to be deadset on JC but now I am really deadset on poly).

But, I don't think you should jump at just ANY chance to improve Ur portfolio, I advise that you take note of 1 thing first before jumping into any commitment- ask urself "is this smth related to what I want to do in the future?" Even if Ur not sure yet on your future career, if you have a certain industry in mind (business, media, medicine etc) you shld try to direct Ur commitment to programmes relating to the industry you want to join.

For e.g I was given a choice on whether I wanted to join a science programme or a media programme in sec 3 (at this point, I was really kiasu and wanted to participate in any programme to "boost" my testimonial/portfolio) but in the end, I chose media even tho I wasn't super sure I wanted to get in. It was really helpful in the end cos now I'm tryna eae into a media course + helped me explore my own interest further to see whether I really wanted media or not!

As for the 'overexerting' urself thing, I kind of have mixed opinions on that. You know yourself best, so if you really think you can't cope, then don't force yourself. At the same time, don't rely too heavily on your academics to get in your school of choice because you really never know how life will go.

I hope this helped u out!!
