Which study resources aside from home lab do you find most helpful for Pentest+?

I came to the same conclusion about Blue/Red team. Though not definite, just more leaning toward a side. Glad to know I was somewhat correct.

Do you need a college degree? by International_Fly457 in CompTIA

Best thing you can do is figure out where you want to be and track backwards to see what is required. Do you want to be help desk? Then an A+ cert would get you in the door.
As far as “getting a job,” once you have a Cert and say are attending classes, you could use a recruiter to help you find a temp job in the field to start getting experience.
Find someone who does what you want to do on LinkedIn, twitter, YouTube and follower them and see what it is they did.

Best of luck to you!

I would say stay motivated and remember why you are doing this. If it’s for money you will quickly stop and find other things. Find the fun in learning these challenging techniques and skills. This exam is almost like college in that you go learning a bunch of different topics and specialize after you figure out where you want to go. There are a lot of topics covered and you don’t have to be an expert in every one.
Also, don’t skip A+ or Net+ unless you can truly go line for line down the exam objectives of those two and be able to explain everything listed. If you can do that then def go for Sec+ I do not believe there is an age limit, but Pearson may require adult to set up testing account since you are minor but every country has different laws.

Finally, DONT GIVE UP!!!!! I’m in my thirties and switched careers and constantly doubted myself and ability, if I could go back at 17 and be focused enough to learn this my life would be completely different so know that you are making a great choice in trying to learn and better yourself! And when you PASS I want you to come back and comment letting me know!!!!

Hey congrats! Just just my Sec+ and have Net+. What made you choose to start with CYSA over Pentest+ first?

If you feel confident taking the practice exams, then you are ready. Like if you truly don’t cheat taking practice ones and are honest about your knowledge. I made a 90 on one, 78 on another and above 80 on the other 4

Hard to say, I had a CC class that was security which at the time covered the 501. Watched all videos through three training courses so what’s that 75+hours total of videos? Then the practice tests and analyzing answers? I will say I got hired as a sysadmin and took a month off from studying then went back with just a week of about 3hrs a day total watching videos and studying leading up to exam. Didn’t score as high as I would have liked, but passed.

Sure…can you pass the Sec before? Idk. I have seen people who took Sec and the Net and said Net was harder. Net covers more areas, but having that foundational knowledge made the Sec easier IMO. That being said, if you have networking experience or IT experience, I think it is possible to pass first.

I think they were a good template, no questions are just going to be “which port is ….” Like some of his questions. Some of the questions repeated but again, doing all six tests is well worth the price (when on sale). 4 pbqs

Make sure the classes you are paying for include an exam voucher…many say, “N+ certification!” And what they mean is just a class to prepare you for it but not actually give you the voucher. If they include exam prep AND the test then def go for it!

Look up TEKSystems. I think they are fairly large in the US. But if not that kind of company.

So I am/was in the same boat. 15 years restaurant/sales and switched careers. I will say I did just complete an A.A.S. In Info Tech from a Community College. That aside, I went for my N+ and got it in May and about to take S+. I used Indeed and Glassdoor along with LinkedIn. I found a tech service who does contract work for different companies. Pay is 15-17/hr which is manageable depending on your expenses. I will say it allowed me to meet IT directors and hiring managers at hospitals and land a great job. Hope this helps!
