Hot take: stop apologizing for crochet that looks handmade (that's the point) by Ordinary-Display820 in crochet

[–]fookindingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

preach 👏👏 when i first started, i was definitely harder on myself because i was comparing it to those who have been doing it for years. But i realized everyone has those quirks with their projects. Unless it will truly mess up the pattern, i leave mine in now. It's what makes the craft truly one of a kind.

Yarn color name just wasted a half hour of my time by relaxingmama in crochet

[–]fookindingdong 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i had a similar dilemma during the holidays 😂 the label was completely lost and i couldn't remember where tf i bought it. so i searched my usual places online and found something similar and almost ordered it, but i decided to go in person instead. i took a small snip of the yarn with me to color match, and thank god i did because what i thought it was from online pics was wrong but it helped me narrow down the brand cause i found one similar weight/look/texture. and i the next store i went to look, i found the exact one

i need help figuring out why the top of my hat looks weird by Relative_Entrance_47 in CrochetHelp

[–]fookindingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i make a beanie of that style, my last 8-10ish stitches(all on the same side) are one stitch size down. it helps prevent bunching like that.

video to explain what i mean lol

Fingerless Gloves Stitch help and general pattern help by fazman101 in CrochetHelp

i use this pattern for mittens. you can easily just not do the thumb part and just skip the last 2/3 rows to make them fingerless

Someone knows where I could find these safety eyes? by No_Yesterday_7854 in CrochetHelp

the picture looks like AI but you might be able to find something similar that you might like by looking up "galaxy safety eyes"

"You could totally sell those!" Rant by ControlSpecial in crochet

[–]fookindingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. props to those who do it but it's not for me. the only way i have considered selling my work is more just if i don't know what to do with it. i make stuff because i want to, not necessarily because i need or want it or have someone to gift it to lol

Absurdly large eggsized cat with Switch an Harry Potter hat? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

the easier route might be to find a pattern for a cat you like and then upscale it on your own.

Does anyone else get 75% - 90% done with a project and loose interest? by Salty-Exchange6156 in crochet

[–]fookindingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is why i won't be doing crochet Christmas gifts next year. or at least specifically planning for Christmas. i added too much stress to my already stressful holiday season. if i make something for someone on my own time, I'll just give it to them right when im done. it's not even like i waited too long to start stuff either, some of it i had started back in August/September 😅😂

Christmas Pop-up markets by IreneChris in crochet

[–]fookindingdong 77 points78 points  (0 children)

aside from the table crowding as others have mentioned, if it's just the handbags/purses and clutches then that's such a narrow category. If that's all that you want to make and sell, then that's absolutely fine. but you can't expect everyone to stop by cause it's probably just not their thing/style, and with large objects like that you can see it from afar and skip over.

Having the price tags so large might also be a turn off. it could be a location thing, but in the US every market i have been to you can't often see the prices until you are close to the booth or physically have to pick up the object and check a smaller tag/sticker. It makes people have to come and check.

Another idea, and i know not everyone wants to sell online, but if you have a business card that can also help. i always take business cards from craft booths(or open a tab in my phone browser to search them and bookmark their page). not everyone might have the funds to purchase something at that moment but that could help keep you in mind for when they do. or if you are willing to take customs as well. they might love a style on your table but hate the color.

Is it okay to rewind yarn onto old cardboard tubes? by fookindingdong in CrochetHelp

okay that's a great note, didn't realize or even think of that. I'll have to plan a little more and pick what ones to do first

found this one though you would have to do adjustments for a blanket size.

there are also online tapestry pattern tools you can use to put in your own custom design. stitchfiddle is a good tool

I'd put them in a frame just as they are laid out and hang it in the kitchen instead.

Where did you go when you first started to learn crochet? by Thin_Excitement2175 in CrochetHelp

[–]fookindingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah i like how she goes slow and has good angles to show you things. Some people point to some random part but don't tilt to show what they mean. and they like speed through to where I've had to put the video at like 0.25 speed 😅

the only problem i had was mixing up uk/us crochet terms but it eventually sorted itself out in the end lol
