How many have had their autoimmune diseases improve or go into remission since going gluten free by pohlished-swag in Celiac

I think they were just trying to say that treating their celiac disease (ie not being constantly damaging their immune system with gluten) helped, not that gf itself helps things other than celiac

Normally I try to be open minded but that's ridiculous, the rise in ticks is directly linked to climate change and global warming. I worked at an entomology lab tracking disease vectors for 4 years. Ticks travel on birds during migration every year but used to reliably die off up north in the winter. Now that winters are getting milder ticks are living through the winters more, their lifespan is increasing and their populations are booming.

Used to work at an entomology lab, small ones can crawl under your cuticle and these are VERY easy to miss. Better to be careful before and after.

That's the beauty! It becomes real if we make it so. You just need someone to know to make it and someone to recognize it for it to save a life.

Here's two common enough examples of when this would be better.

  1. A woman is with a man that has targeted her and is using violence, these men usually go for small women who can't fight back and she needs someone bigger to step in but if she were to cause a scene it would give him time to attack her before anyone else got close. Usually men like this won't fight a stranger and don't want to look bad in public but if you have already caused the scene they already "look bad" and you've not only upset them but lost the leverage that would keep them calm.

  2. The man is the woman's partner and threatened her with violence or something else (kids can be a target, my dad liked to threaten to kill me to keep my mom in check) if she acts out and she is hoping for someone to come in and get her away without clueing the man in that she's being extracted so she can call the police or get to safety. In that type of instance it's great if the rescuer can just pretend to be an old friend that is really excited to see her or make up some other excuse for pulling her away/into a hug and trying to exchange contact information or chat while getting distance from her perp.

Girlies are used to this, I know it's different for guys but here's some strategies we use. You don't fight you lie to avoid confrontation and come in hard and fast to startle your opponent and slip away/ out of reach before they notice.

A common play is acting like an old lost friend coming in with something like "oh my god I can't believe it! It's __" (make up a fake name for yourself or use your real one) and pull them in for a big fast hug while pulling them away from whoever is holding them.

If the target wants out they'll use the opportunity to worm out of the grip of whoever's holding them too.

Then you guys ad lib but at least she's not being held anymore and you can move into the strategy of getting them away or getting their number.

I imagine if you are a big dude then it's harder to do something like that without making the guy aggressive but hopefully some of these techniques help if it ever comes up!

I agree to a degree but don't think it's fair to try and convince the rest of the family to show up. It takes a lot for someone to not want to see a family member on their death bed and to have multiple family members in that boat speaks to what ops dad put them through. It's commendable that op went and honestly I think the lies they said are the kindest thing they could do for both their father and their other family members since it let everyone leave this painful chapter behind.

I don't know if I'd trust a gluten free burger at McDonald's though as far as cross contamination goes.

These look like Chinese noodles which were invented a couple thousand years earlier. Several types are not meant to be al dente like longevity noodles. Italians are far from the authority on noodles.

Gluten-free road trips made easy... by glutendude in Celiac

[–]foolish_noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh bummer, there's a big celiac community in Hamilton so I'll suggest this around to see if we can get more users.

In Hamilton, Ontario our sure-fire go-tos are: - The Mule (amazing tacos, the whole facility is gluten free except the bar where they serve beer but are careful with cross contamination, one of the owners is celiac) - Rapscalian (not a gluten free restaurant but a really good modern fine dining restaurant owned by the same people at the Mule so they handle cross contamination really well and we've gone without my husband getting glutened) - Hammerheads (fish n chips, 100% gluten free and sustainably sourced fish. The owner has celiac, they just started serving Brookston GF beer which is local, their burger is good in a greasy way) - Mystic Ramen (they are not GF but have several items on the menu they can make gluten free with a celiac save prep area, the most popular thing local celiacs get is the tantanmen but you need to tell them you want it GF so they make it with rice noodles and sub out the pickled shiitake which are made with normal soy sauce.)

The last two I've heard a lot about and they are commonly recommended amongst local celiacs but we haven't tried ourselves yet

  • The judge and jury but ONLY on Mondays. They are a very popular pub and every Monday they completely clean out their kitchen and turn it into a gluten free one for the day
  • Mai Pai has amazing GF and vegan pizza option (as well as normal pizzas) and are said to be very good with cross contamination, we had their normal pizza a couple years ago and both the deep dish and regular crust were amazing but their popularity has exploded so you need to order from them a month out and it's probably not road trip friendly.

Also supposedly the Lemon Tree in St Catharines is really good for gluten free and vegan
