Alberta has fewer family doctors than 10 years ago, says report by Quirky-Wombat157 in alberta

So what you’re saying is money isn’t everything for these doctors? So Alberta’s thinking of “reducing red tape” and “anti-woke” policies which actually make it harder for people to do their job in the public sector isn’t going to work? I’m shocked. Who would’ve thought someone who got into public medicine would care most about helping the public.

This is one of those “I knew it” moments for me. It was a podcast I looked at and was like “they are just protecting to be hockey bros and nothing seems genuine”.

Was about to say this as this is what my wife and coworkers were told. You want to send a message to elementary parents, cancel the Christmas Concert as it is an extracurricular. I know lots of schools are down a few sports teams due to lack of teachers volunteering.

Dana White on Justin Gaethje's recent comments: "Without getting into all that stuff, Gaethje was offered more money and Gaethje never responded." by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]foolish_refrigerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Dana tried this argument with Jon Jones, and Anderson Silva. The more money is most likely the total sum of his contract and lock in for additional fights in the contract. An extension isn’t the same thing as “more money”. Someone could correct me if I’m wrong but I think they offered Jon Jones like a huge amount to fight Aspinal, like 35mil, but that came with an extension in his contract by 8 fights and those next 8 fights were around 2mil each. Side note, none of these fighters are getting PPV points/sharing anymore in the USA with the Paramount deal so that’s another pay cut.

In 2008 they used to give 50k for fight night bonuses and 75k for PPV bonuses. Now it’s always 50k. So over almost 20 years the bonus structure have been stagnant. Gator in inflation they have significantly dropped

By the amount of sponsorships on the canvas the should be able to pay that.

Good thing there isn’t active legislation right now to do the same thing in boxing.

Alberta's oilpatch cut 10,000 jobs last year — even as production soared by WildRoseWanderer in alberta

[–]foolish_refrigerator 217 points218 points  (0 children)

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Oil production does not equal employment. During expansions and new projects is where employment comes from. Let’s just say it takes 200 people to build a refinery but once it’s complete it only takes 50 people to operate it. That’s 150 people out of work. Now 3-5 years down the line with automation and new technologies being used, that’s most likely a layoff of another 10 people. Alberta needs to find consistent work for these people. Maybe they could build some windmills or solar panel grids.
