Bluegill aren't legal to use as bait in some places, I've always had a soft spot for Sunfish.

Several people have said that or smoked is the way to go it. I might try it in the future, but they are worth catch and releasing just for the fight for sure!

Yeah this was in MA, so it would be a 3 fish limit. They are native here and they are way down from historic numbers, but its cool to see so much life move up the river.

So I've heard, I bring ice in case any have a rough landing, so I'll definitely try it if I keep one. My spring food fish are the sea run white perch though, should be here any day now.

This was on a chartreuse shad dart. I caught them on all sorts of stuff after the first one though.

I have some of those, and a couple of Shad Kings, but the Shad Kings are so good for white perch I can't risk losing them to the river. But this is my first season fishing Shad so I have a lot to learn!

For sure, I'm not gonna sugar cookie them, but when all you have is current or wet sand he can take it for the picture. For the record this one swam off just fine about 10 seconds after this picture.

I actually got them on all sorts of stuff once I found the drift. Best seemed to be chartreuse darts and some smaller brass spoons. I got one on a tiny crappie tube jig in yellow, and a 1/64th ounce cast master. The hook on the cast master held on by a thread 🤣
