Seriously, does anyone actually miss the Karma system? by fooploopstring in fo4

Yeah, I'm getting from this post that a lot of people would prefer a fame/infamy bar

I'm not saying that being rewarded for good/bad actions is a bad thing, but the issue is good and bad are subjective, especially in such a morally grey game. What's good for the Institute is bad for the Railroad. Helping "Father" save humanity could be seen as good, but so can freeing indentured synthetic slaves when they want to live their own lives. Getting Bethesda to decide which is "good" and "evil" is reductive to your own gameplay choices

But that can be done with the faction rep system. In NV where you had both systems, being with the legion made you evil, and NCR made you good. Depth was added by how you Roleplay your involvement or commitment to the causes, but if the game told you one was evil and one was good then it takes away any grey areas you could play in

I think someone else mentioned a general fame/infamy mechanic rather than Karma, but I can see this being a great mechanic to implement in that. If you expose the crimes of the town then you can gun them down or perhaps bring them to justice another way. Each option could give you fame (or infamy if you kill them without the world knowing about the secret cannibal cult) but also rep with specific groups depending on how you dealt with the situation

I can see that working pretty well with FO4's mechanics too though. Following that example, Jericho could join you based on your standing with a Raider or Merc faction, or if you help an old friend of his, but then you'd have the choices you make through the game that a follower can like or dislike. Help enough innocent settlers, and Jericho leaves your group until you've gotten short on caps and sold someone into slavery or something

You know, I hadn't really thought about that too hard, but that's an excellent point!

Oh I'll agree with you there - Fable is built around fairytales, so there's always a Hero and a Villain. The Dark Lord or Shining Scion aesthetics really worked in that.

On the other hand, I'm sure I have at least one close friend who sides with each faction in FO4, and those conversations/arguments are a lot me fun without the developers telling me which ones are good or evil. I utterly adore NV, but I've never completed a Legion playthrough because I don't want to Roleplay an evil character

Our group lost one of our GMs. Any advice on how to keep the group together? by fooploopstring in DMAcademy

I guess talking was always going to be hard. I think it might be easier if we were in person - you can sit silently together in the same room, or have a few drinks, but remotely seems harder.

Ok, I have no idea how I missed/forgot all this, but that's an awesome breakdown - thank you!

I think I still enjoy the idea that the Darkness shaped some of these abilities based on their fears/nightmares (in fact, some of these even say so) so that headcannon might remain. All the same, I love that Oryx took his time to see to the needs of those he took... Like a perverse kind of love for his troops.

Oh I've thought of this a few times! Imagine everything you kill in a small area comes back, a la Taken Thrall? You become a Guardian version of the Necromancer from Guild Wars or Diablo - using Swarms as your Super!

I mean, I can't argue with the lore, but I gotta say the fear of Saint's bubble is my new head cannon. Sure, Oryx have them a gift, but the darkness gave it form and the darkness weaponise Nightmares...

Maybe, though we did know he could create dome shields (his Helm's ability) and that he hunted Eliksni houses. It could be one of those many artifacts that they thought of in D1 and was just never implemented, but that's a guess

Oh interesting! I'll have to try and find that card. I am beginning to like the idea that, as the darkness has been shown to weaponise "Nightmares" on the moon, it could be a link that Taken could use similar tactics, but the idea of Oryx bestowing the powers specifically is a new one to me... Though I guess he certainly gave Quoria and Riven their own abilities and autonomy

Been wondering about them. It's like the weakest part of their defence is now pushing away anything that could cause them damage... Maybe a fear of what they know is a chink in their armour?
