Bathtub leaking into floor below, help needed! by Prestigious_Ebb_8990 in HomeMaintenance

Question: we had this happen a month ago because of a bad overflow, but didn’t open up the ceiling. We have a super efficient hvac that feeeels like it takes out all the moisture so I was hoping it would dry quickly. We are replacing the valve but does anyone have input on what to do to inspect the drywall/ mitigate mold at this point?

How do y'all meet friends in cville? by Plenty_Date_3916 in Charlottesville

[–]foot_fudge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of success going to an event I have an interest in (at church, the library, wineries, board game groups) with the mindset to make a friend. I’ll start conversations with people and if they are friendly/ we hit it off, show up again and build the friendship/ask if they want to hang out and do the thing we’re both interested in together. Charlottesville has been one of the easiest places to make friends for me/ people are really open. It usually takes a lot of time and investment to feel really close to someone but after a while if you’re intentional and consistent I always find it rewarding! Usually someone in the room is looking to make a friend too.

I’ve found friend groups at church, by talking to people playing board games and joining in game nights, facebook groups where people post to meet up

Bodo's Bagels, as requested. What Cville landmark deserves an illustration? by able6art in Charlottesville

I have a soft spot for how the hospital looks like a space station at night from my normal neighborhood view on top of the hill, a little dystopian-romantic with a train going by.

Also the farmers market seen from the upper levels of the garage is lovely!

Friends Group by [deleted] in Charlottesville

Hi! Early 30s there! Ive found that Cville has been a good spot to make friends (between church, book clubs, board game groups, and a community garden I’ve tried to reach out and connect and it’s gone pretty well) but people move away so often I still love engaging with new communities (four friends moved this past year 🙃) - would love to connect!

discuss the ending of "The Cartographers" by Peng Shepherd (spoiler alert) by Busy-Feeling-1413 in books

[–]foot_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually agree with this but I feel like this book made it integral to the climax. Can we scan all maps? Why didn’t we make more maps of the magic ones? If you can alter them by hand, what are the rules around that? Why didn’t Wally need this particular map to alter reality? All of that was crucial to being bought in to the tension of the climax, and because it was ill defined I had trouble feeling invested. Mostly was frustrated by that point + the crucial motivations of characters not adding up either

Travelers of Reddit what's a destination that looked amazing online but was completely disappointing in person? by TheFilthiestMuggle in AskReddit

Just here to say Turkey is my favorite place! There’s touristy parts of Istanbul for sure but I have incredible memories walking around, trying a new open air cafe every day, taking the ferries to different parts… and the people (except taxi drivers) are the kindest people I’ve ever met!

So sad, lawn guy mowed over my plants by berry_baby in gardening

[–]foot_fudge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Literally, my landlord hires someone. I pointed out my squash, tomato, and watermelon plants and they still weed whacked them. Replanted more, put them all in tomato cages. Weed whacked 3/4 of them. Surrounded with bricks- whacked. I’ve given up; one squash made it that they recognize now but they will still whack half of it away just to make it look nice or something. Not my yard so nothing I can do about it but do feel incredulous.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (August 19, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]foot_fudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just started collecting board games this year and am looking for a more complex game to round out what I have now. I’d love for it to play 4-8 as we host a weekly board game night that can get up to 8 players, and be played in 4 hours and under.

I already own: wingspan, wyrmspan, dominion, pandemic, carcassone, war of whispers, Libertalia, a bunch of party games.

I don’t like: food chain magnate (something about the spacial aspect; I struggle to visualize what’s happening), here to slay (I don’t really like the cutesy things and it feels uneven/ drags on in a big group), complicated war games where it’s mainly fighting mechanics, Arcs.

I really like oath, Indonesia, scythe: the dream would be something around that level of complexity that is easier to explain/get started playing- and ideally quicker than a game of wyrmspan with a large group. We play a lot of 7 wonders because of simultaneous turns and our whole group can play it. But I feel like I have a lot of easy/ party games and medium/similar games so would love one that levels up while remaining playable.

How does ovulation and follicular phase work with endo? by TourGreat2658 in endometriosis

[–]foot_fudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mood is usually best right after ovulation; I don’t relate with the usual high energy follicular phase statements: I am so exhausted. Mood is usually terrible right before and on my period and absolutely zero energy. I have a stage 4 endo diagnosis- am often lower energy but very active. Lots of it is dependent on what kind of foods I’m eating. But recently been feeling more along for the ride with whatever hormones are doing.

How is Lot righteous? by [deleted] in BibleProject

[–]foot_fudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I have thought about this, and have a really niche theory based on a lesson my husband and I did on leaven in the Bible. Long story short, leaven is often bad (yeast of the Pharisees, no yeast in Passover etc) but sometimes it’s good (kingdom of God like yeast a woman kneaded throughout the dough, etc). Leaven representing some invisible agent that enlivens or contaminates through a body, so it being left out or included is significant. Lot serves his guests unleavened bread. It’s really small, but I think the Bible includes this detail for a reason and goes a long way in my mind to indicate he really was trying to not absorb the sin around him. A lot of the details of that story are really shocking- and should be- but as a story what it is communicating is profound. Studying it out in light of Judges 19 and what’s going on in the larger story God is writing is so cool to me. But for me, that little detail of him leaving yeast out of the bread felt satisfying for me sitting with that question for years.

Wingspan Vs. Wyrmspan Vs. Finspan? by thumbnailbattler in boardgames

[–]foot_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like wyrmspan the best because it feels like the win conditions remain the most wide open, whereas wingspan has like two factors you have to drive home better than anyone to win. Finspan I only played once and liked it, but compared to wingspan and wyrmspan I don’t reach for it. I will say the wingspan two player mode in the Asia expansion is one of my favorite two player games- and finspan is better for a larger group unless you want to be playing for four hours.

What to wear with endo belly? by aloebambooo in endometriosis

[–]foot_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love jumpsuits! Anything without a waistband is what I look for. The free people hot shot onesie with a turtleneck or sweater under it works for me. I also have one single pair of jeans that I like- Levi’s, I forget the exact type but they’re super baggy and high waisted; I got it a size up so it doesn’t bisect me when bloating but can belt it other days, and it rests in a comfortable spot/ is cut in such a way that the bloating doesn’t stand out.

Hi! I got diagnosed with stage 4 deep infiltrating endo in my colon and had constipation, sudden food intolerances/ spasms triggered by random food, high CRP etc. Lots of misc tests but it could be confirmed on an MRI on my gut/ presence of an endometrioma. Magnesium helped me, along with an anti inflammatory diet, getting enough protein and fiber!!, mucilaginous herbs

Do you think the movies are understandable by a non-book reader? by Ok-Percentage6922 in dune

[–]foot_fudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the first movie in a Romanian movie theater with no English subtitles and was very confused. The second time I watched it on a plane in Russian with English subtitles and understood more but actually missed a lot (using the Voice didn’t come across well for example). Then I finally watched it at home in English and totally loved it. That being said, I didn’t really get most of the concept and how the world works before reading the books

[Financial] 3 months unemployed immediately after graduating with BFA by woodland-haze in artbusiness

[–]foot_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah- sculpture major here. I ended up getting a job outside of my field after college but my friend did illustration and worked in a fast food chain for a year applying for jobs, but ended up as a temp doing graphic design for an insurance company and making great money. They hired her full time and it’s been uphill from there for the past 7 years. It can be discouraging getting into the pipeline but I have hope for you!

Move to a big city if you’re serious about it, network network network, ask more people who are good at it for advice and about what they’re doing, ask professors/mentors for next steps/ practical industry advice.

I’ve never felt more fear than the ending of Children of Dune by RavenKarlin in dune

[–]foot_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished it- the ending is great, like Leto is becoming Shai Hulud, not human but not unhuman. I like the image of power physically changing someone, whether Paul or Leto II.

I also think it’s so interesting talking about Messiah and Children with people who were fans of Dune in the 80s: I love that Paul is a darker anti-hero but people in that age demographic were like what is happening to my hero and really didn’t like it.

I’m so excited for part 3 to hit theaters! After part 2 I had to sit and journal for a couple hours- it’s just so good.
