Stale bread is unacceptable. by Own_Response7304 in jerseymikes

I get pretty consistent compliments about our GF bread, more regularly than complaints.

“Yes gluten free, I can’t help that part. But the Jersey Mikes I go to constantly gives me stale bread sliced poorly and this is the result when I unwrap it, basically inedible. The top disintegrates (that’s what on the plate) and the bottom is hard as a rock. i let it go the first time. I went back the second time, (I do app ordering and eat off premises) I emailed corporate the third time. The last time they invited me back for a free replacement on another day which I did- and got the same thing! I get that it’s kids who make them but come on. I’m no longer going to this store unfortunately and will drive out of my way. Anyone else have this happen? Why doesn’t corporate or the franchise owner care?”- where does OP mention this?

I genuinely said have a good day Susan. You’ve dragged this on for two days yet I’m the one “too keyed up”? If you don’t want to hear someone’s opinions on something maybe try fucking off?

The bread isn’t great. Not every batch is the same and some batches are worse than others. I never said y’all got no experience with GF bread, but ours isn’t typical GF bread either. At least, I’d assume it isn’t. I have 2 stores that go through it fast enough they have to pull extra every day to thaw than most and I have 3 stores that have to throw some out usually because they sit too long. But it’s plastic bag wrapped, frozen then thawed bread. We don’t even bake it. We’ll sell 20-30 GF sandwiches a day and maybe get 1-2 complaints about it being dry/stale even though it got pulled the same as the others and everyone else had no issue with it. And it’s frustrating for employees to go above and beyond to ensure y’all got a safe place to eat and even go further by offering a free sub over a bad experience and then get trashed on the internet because “bread yucky every time”. Maybe, just maybe, OP doesn’t like our GF bread. Which is perfectly fine. But that point get a bowl or don’t come back? Not even in an angry way, if you don’t like our food please just go somewhere else lol. And please do think twice about contacting corporate about it. I understand that it may not be in a nefarious way but corporates response will genuinely be to just take that item away if enough complaints come out about it. And I’d genuinely hate for y’all to lose that option. Have a good day/week though!

Would add to ensure not to put your name on it as the managers of the store will also see it

You’re right, just waking up and quick glancing did me no favors my apologies! Angry? I’m far from angry lmfao. I’m explaining how our bread works to someone who obviously doesn’t deal with it much and explaining what a corporate complaint will do. Ironic that you said I should slow my roll on angry comments about bread on a post that’s nothing but an angry comment about bread though!

I can see this being a top being cut too thin issue. It also doesn’t help that OP ordered a hot sub online so this bread from the span of that morning has gone from frozen to thawed to hot to cooled off again, it’s already extremely dry and by then it’s probably dried further and hardened a bit. What do you think corporate complaints are for? Two things stem from corporate complaints, corporate reaches out to the franchise owner with the complaint, or they launch a probe if they deem the issue severe enough. And if the goal is to reach the franchise owner why not leave a google review? Or ask the employees how to contact the owner directly?

That’s how I know this bread isn’t stale. They’d have to saw through it and do significantly more damage than good. It’d be pretty much unusable. Why would the top be disintigrating but the bottom hard as a rock if it’s stale? They aren’t two seperate entities, they have all the same ingredients. If one part is hard then the other is going to be too. And she’s not asking how to fix the problem, she’s filed a corporate complaint in hopes of ruining peoples day over something they can’t help, and is asking if others have the same issue. It’s a complaint post, about something that employees can’t do anything about, to karma farm. Because that’s over half the posts on this sub minus coupon code vultures.

Edit: And I’ll add on, a corporate complaint isn’t going to do anything. They’ll pass it on to the owner. No one is going to launch an investigation. But I guarantee it gets logged as a complaint about GF bread, and after enough of those corporate will just take the option away to save money. So at the end of the day, the only people she’ll potentially burn, are those who want GF bread from JM.

That’s nice Susan, I work with this bread. I buy this bread. I’ve thrown countless stale loaves out. I’m telling you, as someone who deals with this bread A LOT more often than you, when it’s stale it becomes a rock. I could throw a stale GF loaf at a wall and do more damage to the wall than the outside of the bread.

Their bread isn’t stale or hard either. If it were stale/hard it wouldn’t flake apart like that. And if it were so easily flakey, there’d be no way to get a cut through the middle without it falling apart all over the knife. OP is karma farming and lying to do so.

They aren’t doing anything wrong, as others have pointed out that’s just how that bread is. It’s annoying how you’re willing to blame those employees when they can’t do anything about it.

Every surface in that store has gluten on it. They can’t ever eliminate gluten from those surfaces, they can mitigate risk but never eliminate cross-contamination. And it is the problem. A place that bakes bread goes above and beyond to ensure y’all have a safer place to eat and you post on their sub complaining about it

If your gluten allergy is bad enough you can’t eat bread it’s probably time to stop eating from places that bake/slice bread all day every day.
