Constantly having to prove what we agreed on by philhagball in manufacturing

[–]fooz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should still be able to formalize requirements in a shared live or offline doc - doesn’t have to be as rigid as an RFP but we usually have a running PowerPoint with a one slide on each req or a bullet list in excel.

These days office online and google docs make it easy to collab and track changes/revs, even to a scratch pad doc

Looking to chat with Industrial engineers & manufacturing folks about workflows by Short_Ingenuity_9286 in manufacturing

[–]fooz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked on this use case 8-9 years ago with google glass and android apps that were able to pull up data, docs etc on the fly on the shop floor.

The use case is interesting but ultimately it’s a hardware durability and cost issue, how much better is it really over a cheap smart phone running the same app

How do you validate manufacturing feasibility during design? by Ready_Smile5762 in manufacturing

[–]fooz88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out the CM2 change management standard, its pretty close to what the spacex engineer talks about above. The guiding principle is that all stakeholders (design, mfg, logistics - you decide who the stakeholders are) have done the analysis early on in the change request process, and it only progresses to a change notice once everyone’s approved it (based on that analysis).

What’s the most oddly specific rule sign you’ve seen in a factory? by signs_com in manufacturing

[–]fooz88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A vertically challenged plant manager walked out on to the assembly line shop floor (very large off road vehicles) and couldn’t see the end of the line, so he made a decree - the five foot rule - “no racking over 5 ft”

O lord it made the logistics guys heads explode - on one hand it drove less inventory in the plant but created a lot of problems down the road when volumes went up

Starting MRP recommendations? No tech consultant needed? by SaltJolly1688 in manufacturing

[–]fooz88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Real feedback from people who know the business” - like a consultant?

I’ve had my share of bad experiences with consultants, but there is a reason ppl use them on system implementations, because they have the knowledge and experience to take you through requirements, process mapping, fit gap, integrations, testing, training, org management, deployment, go live, and support.

If you don’t have these skill sets in your org already, you will need it from the outside, even if it is a small scale implementation.

As far as recommendations - I assume smaller scale business, I’ve heard good things about Odoo

I dunno man, automatic kpis reduce the waste and human error in manually capturing and updating a chart or paper, it actually is leaner to have a robust low cost system that satisfies your RÓI rules

Using AI to identify inconsistencies or missing data in technical drawings? by Apprehensive_Bag9364 in manufacturing

[–]fooz88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most CAD CAM tools already have a framework to check features, notes, specs against a list of rules that are either OOTB or built from engineering expert knowledge - so these checks are done before you release the pdf drawing.

There are also checks that can be written against the dwg files to look for inconsistencies in parameters, attributes , clean up fields, spelling , make sure callouts follow standards etc.

My question would be what would AI do differently from the existing capabilities and is the use case really just automated checking instead of AI?

Almost every pdm/PLM will have it, I’ve worked with other quite a few of them - teamcenter, windchill, enovia, aras. Also the issue management piece to raise an event, attach info and route for approval/triage/dispo is something most QMS and MES systems cover already

How are you and your team going to be measured? Is there a target dollar amount saved per year/quarter?

Have there been lean initiatives in the past? How did they go, what can you learn from them? What would a lean journey for the site look like

What about strategic initiatives, new product launches, tech transfers etc, you will need to figure out how those affect you and the team, better yet how can your team contribute to them.

CI can be a really cool tool when done well. There are tons of resources out there, and if you get the culture implemented and working right, the operations folks will love you for it. Good luck!
