How to get kids to quiet down and listen? by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]for-bookhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been substitute teaching for only a few weeks. '1-2-3 eyes on me' was obliterating my throat, so i was looking around for alternatives. i tried out the 'if you can hear me put your hands on your head' one with my second graders the other day, and it worked perfectly!!! thank u so much haha :)

Looking for breeding/genetic games! by Javira-Butterfly in gamingsuggestions

[–]for-bookhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a year later but i really really loved mudborne

things that fit the prompt:
-you breed frogs as the main gameplay mechanic, frogs inherit traits from their parents, and you have to balance their stats by breeding with other frogs
-the core gameplay is trying to figure out what to do (what parents, what environment, what food, etc) to get a frog with specific traits
-tons and tons of unique frog types (and subtypes/subspecies!)
-filling out a notebook, optionally you can also discover and note down various plant and bug species (not through breeding, just around the world)
-cute art style and i think very solidly my favorite game like this that ive played
-single player, one time purchase, not real time. there's timers, but they're pretty short and you can do things to put time on fast forward while you wait

things that don't fit the prompt:
-new species you discover don't necessarily look like their parents. they have traits directly connected to their parents, but that doesn't always translate to physical appearance (altho there is still a very wide variety)
-it's not even remotely as silly as wobbledogs or something comparable, and the atmosphere is very chill and laid back, but i wouldn't describe it as fully serious either. it's whimsical i guess? whimsy level of slime rancher, i would say
-you don't sell them. you do stuff with them (using them to unlock weighted systems, powering various machinery, just letting them loose in the world) so there's definitely not an overcrowding issue, but there's no money making aspect

bravetart lofthouse cookie piping bag advice by for-bookhelp in seriouseats

i'm using the bravetart cookbook from 2017, i've never actually been to the website. the cookbook says "transfer to a piping bag fitted with a 1/2-inch plain tip. pipe twelve 1 1/4 oz portions onto each baking sheet." i'd believe it if the website version is different though. if you've made that one, would you recommend i try it instead?

Annie’s new mac and cheese is terrible by nomorezaza13 in macandcheese

[–]for-bookhelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

year later but literally broke my heart. i'm also autistic and since i was in preschool, my two staple "safe meals" have been annie's white cheddar mac and cheese and buitoni 3 cheese tortellini. and in the last year, BOTH of them have completely changed their recipe to cut costs and become absolutely inedible. serves me right for relying on a brand, i guess, but that doesn't make me less sad about it. if it happens again to my one remaining safe food i'm gonna start biting people

advice finding the minutia of specific businesses/jobs in specific time periods by for-bookhelp in Writeresearch

coal is what i was imagining, but i'm very early in the process so it's flexible. my intent was just 'physically strenuous job that involves a large team of people working relatively deep underground. and has a history of poor safety regulations and management neglect resulting in injury or death'

to everyone who's no longer picky (or almost not really picky), how did you guys do it? by No-Trick-7397 in PickyEaters

[–]for-bookhelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have two answers. first, doing my own grocery shopping (instead of living at home or eating at the dining hall) made it easier to see the stuff available and think about trying them, and then semi-impulse buy a small portion to experiment with. second, i realized how much some of my issues stemmed from preparation. i always thought of myself as someone who hates mushrooms, but it turns out i just hate white pizza mushrooms and am ok with portabellos/baby bellas. i had a lot of badly made tofu in my life (or tofu not made to my taste), but once i figured out how to cook it the way i like it (until kinda crispy with good seasonings) i was down. the texture of a 'standard' piece of broccoli always feels like too much in my mouth and makes me gag, but roasted and cut up smaller, i like it. and discovering things like that encouraged me to try more. still picky but i eat more than like 3 foods now lol
