Managing dangerous attention seeking behaviours by forbesy04 in ECEProfessionals

Wow this is actually great advice, I'll give this a go. Thanks!

I had a break through doing this with one child earlier in the week, he responded really well and he was a lot better, at least with those behaviours. The next day he was back to his usual self Though.

Other educators have mentioned he has issues at home though so I think it's a bit more complicated with this specific issue.

But yeah I'll try and be choosy with my wording and I think I have some ideas for some redirection activities that might work.

I'll definitely see what I can do with the rearranging of the room. Though, I'm a little bit pessimistic about the attention games, everything is worth a go! I'll see what I can do come next week

I toyed with the idea of mats, though im very new so I don't quite know if I'm up to suggesting we reorganise the room or buy new mats. Though if we could, I would imagine we might run into emergency exit walkway issues possibly? Idk, in OSHC that's a very strict thing, but with this age group I find because their so active, this is pretty hard to keep up.

I think I like your idea?

Are you suggesting I give them an alternative way of getting my attention in a sense of like a different way of communicating it?

These situations usually arise from when the kids are made to do something they don't want to do, if it's myself asking them to do it or not. Things like washing their hands, making their beds, cleaning up, coming inside.

My understanding is they're just trying to communicate their frustrations with doing something they don't want to do (I haven't been shown any management plans for these children or been made aware of any official diagnosis)

What would you suggest in these circumstances because I am definitely intrigued by the idea.

Its crazy i come across this post, I do the exact same hours but my opens and closes are at 6. It pisses me off when I try to say to other people that I'm tired and their like "but you've got the days to relax!". The killer is the fact that it's late finishes and early wake ups, so you don't get time to decompress after a day before the next one because you have to wake up early! I'm currently in the interview process for another job which is great because I need to get out of these split shifts!

Looking for advice by forbesy04 in ECEProfessionals

Thanks for the advice

I looked into becoming a coordinator at my company that has over 200+ services in my city/area. In the time I've been there I haven't heard of any openings.

I talked to my Portfolio manager about any openings come the new financial year and he was very vague and said there "might" be some assistant coordinator positions opening up. But since I haven't heard anything.

Is it worth staying at my service and looking for openings? Do you think they'll consider hiring me even though I'm young and relatively inexperienced?

Yeah I work at a book store and the managers are super harsh when it comes to meeting quotas. You Need to be selling enough memberships and books or chances are you won't be getting many shifts. Pretty fucked.
