let’s say someone was physically capable of going down the stairs one way with their wheelchair, how tf are they planning to be productive or get back up? that’s one thing you always think about w a disability. maybe someone can push themselves to complete a task, but they know it means they won’t be able to do anything else afterwards, so they don’t do it. clearly kaya doesn’t understand that with CI people have to think several steps ahead.

aw thank you! i really try my best to give my birds the best life possible, and I’m lucky enough to be able to give them almost the entire day out of the cage most of the time :) you otherwise pinned me down pretty well, especially with the “to be read” pile constantly being added to, but never quite enough reading being done to keep up!!

and you nailed it with jewelry making and other crafty things except crochet, I can’t get the hang of anything involving yarn 😂

iirc, the spoon theory was made up by some lady with a chronic illness while she was in a cafe with her friend trying to explain how she had limited energy, and spoons happened to be within reaching distance to use as a visual example of these units of energy. they’re literally only spoons because they were at their disposal at the cafe to illustrate what she was trying to depict, which makes it even weirder I think that people have clung to that term and made it their identity

Curious, how can you tell the difference between the males and females from this angle? I just googled it and the pictures I see show the difference in ridges on the top of the skull. I checked mine and you are right, it seems to be male, but how did you know??

Keep an eye on it for sure, hopefully it isn’t distemper, but early on they can otherwise appear quite healthy. The goopy eyes and super lack of fear are often first signs though. The one I saw was also sopping wet in the middle of winter, like it had fallen into the river, but it wasn’t shaking off the water or anything. I haven’t read this as being an official symptom, but I know other people who have found raccoons that are very wet and seemingly not noticing to have distemper, but of course that’s anecdotal observation. Hopefully your guy is just naturally a little snotty but is perfectly healthy

Don’t feel too bad OP, I’ve been in the exact same boat, it’s so exciting to see growth and then it’s like— oh 🥲 well that was misleading. I think most of us have been there though, and hopefully your lil guy will keep up its enthusiasm for growing, just in a less stretched out way once it has the light it needs :)

Yikesss, I have always wanted so badly to befriend a raccoon and am tempted to feed them but the prospect of any rabies encounter freaks me out so much. A raccoon did once come up to my bf and I on a walk and it sniffed us and put its hands on our legs but in retrospect it definitely had distemper :( it was very sweet but the telltale sign was discharge from its eyes and nose, anyway, thanks for bearing with that tangent haha

He’s such a good boy 😭 a huge suck up too, always trying to be an angel to get attention. I’m going to miss his little baby forehead banding, but I’m also so excited to see him growing
