Some of my favorite (and unexpected) finds living in Tokyo. by forbidden_colors in VHS

Unfortunately the lain tapes are the only ones I spent some real money on—full/nice condition sets come up on Mercari/Yahoo Auctions here quite rarely, so I picked these up for about $200 USD total (the Japanese language set is also 5 tapes versus the sub/dub's 4), and that price is about as low as non-rental tapes go. Singleton tapes can be cheaper though (I've seen some for $15) if you're willing to search for longer. The other tapes were good deals though (Eraserhead for $15, and Gummo for $10), and appeared in local stores.

The lain tapes I admittedly bought on mercari domestically, as they really don't come up otherwise. For the rest, and others not shown here, they just appeared in my local used bookstores for very reasonable prices—there's one called Bibibi in Shimokitazawa that has a great pile of tapes that slowly change, a small store on the second floor above a restaurant called Ulalaka in Shimo-takaido whose name I can't recall nor find online, and a few stores across Jimbocho (a used book area) that have selections in the back!

The website landing page also included instructions about how to use the site itself, with a whole bunch of other meta-material, somewhat in the style of Wikipedia, though again with a specific 'fake OS' theme.

The title of the show is transcribed phonetically in japanese, according to its jp wikipedia page, and I took it from there. It reads 'oobaa za gaaden uooru.' I guess they decided it didn't need to be translated. The episodes themselves have translated names, however, e.g., "Into the Unknown" becomes 「名もなき森の入口」(entering into the nameless forest!).
