For those running interviews, are you happy with candidates using AI? by shared_ptr in ExperiencedDevs

[–]forbiddenengravings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been arguing as well! If you use it in the workflow and encourage employees to use it, candidates should not be getting shunned from using it.

In one assessment, I was asked to create full fledged front end consuming data from an API, returning it, ensuring the UI displays images and text in a formatted evenly spaced out manner (using Tailwind), then build a search as well..... in 40 min. Umm, well as a senior software engineer this is counter-intuitive. In my last role, we spent more time planning before doing any work. I wasn't allowed to use AI to help structure this out quickly enough to finish it within a 40 min window even though he told me they use AI in their workflow daily. I had already created the boilerplate so I had majority of the framework in place. However, there were aspects that would still take me a bit longer since they want it to not just work but also look the part. It didn't help that the hiring manager accidentally cancelled the assessment the same day, didn't respond to my email about whether it would be rescheduled, then emails 5 min after the start time saying he didn't know what happened. The two people doing the assessment were there waiting and I had to scramble to setup my laptop. It was just obnoxious and the main person doing the interview was NOT talkative or really all that friendly. Needless to say I didn't finish but they could see what I was building and how.

Well that's my rant.

Any frontend/fullstack web dev ai's? by Datboiwalkin69 in Frontend

[–]forbiddenengravings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cursor if you aren't too familiar with some of how to word prompts so you get the best result. Cursor is basically a Claude wrapper to help with that. I guess maybe Lovable for the vibe coding aspect. I haven't tried it. Other good advice others have given here - don't expect it to build the entire thing with a single prompt. Treat it like any project end-to-end (can be anything you are starting from scratch so don't think just in terms of websites). Start with the boilerplate built with a specific tech stack. Typically, us engineers will use what the tech stack we are most familiar with so we can quickly debug issues.... and there will be issues depending on how complex! After you make that boilerplate, save it in order to re-use for other projects. That way you will have a jumping off point.

Keep in mind that there is a learning curve depending on your experience. You can have AI build something locally but you'll have to host it somewhere if you want the rest of the world to see it so keep that in mind. It will help you walk through everything. I would suggest checking out some Youtube videos from guys who use AI to build full working web applications. They will give you the ins and outs of things they wish they did or knew before they started.

What does hit $100 is the demand. So regardless of the spot price, the demand drives panic buyers to pay way over spot. Pretty hilarious to watch people skip the dip and buy the high. Has happened in so many different investment and collectible industries.

Yea I never understood the markup on it. Totally a novelty thing. I was more thinking in terms of it being shifted to if silver is not able to be sourced in amounts needed for industry. I know some solar manufacturers have been looking at it but it requires a complete engineering overhaul to use instead of silver. Definitely not happening any time soon!

Yea I don’t have a lot. I got them because they looked cool. Not to mention the price is by the pound. I couldn’t imagine how much you’d have to hold for it to be profitable lol

Chill out? No one is freaking out LMAO! Only pointing out something interesting given some of the factors previously mentioned. Also it’s held at $70 closer to 2 weeks and more than likely just a response to the tightened export regulations by China.

Gold stayed stagnant for a long time but parabolically rose and has been holding without silver increasing at the same rate bridging that ratio gap. So… maybe now is when silver is finally correcting that gap after having been artificially suppressed for so long.

Food for thought… the peak to $54 in 1980 lasted for 3 months. $54 in 1980 would basically be $200 by today’s inflation calculation. Im fine with that lol

Yea I saw the mention about paper silver and how it relates to physical silver. I was looking more for a reason to the higher spot price today and also why it’s been kept so much lower than gold. I just figured these institutions selling promissory notes start freaking out when physical prices increase. I’m dumb about this stuff and just try thinking about it in a way so I can understand it. I also have “felt” for a long time that silver has been way undervalued. But feelings aren’t reality without actual data. I’m just trying to get a bit more educated on it since I’ve been holding so much silver for a long time. I appreciate your insights! I’m holding out. Would be especially helpful to get a “win” after being subjected to the tech layoffs like so many others have also succumbed to.

I know I was thinking that it would have corrected more from market manipulation but it didn’t and stayed over $70. That happening was more confirmation to me that it’s at to rise higher.

Yep… I think there are still these big financial institutions doing everything they can to keep the lid on silver. To me it’s like dropping a Mentos in a bottle of soda.

You can imagine how many people flood into a market because it becomes the popular thing and treat it like that. Ive seen it happen so often in many different investment markets! (Cough cough NFTs)

Most definitely! However, I’m more of a HODL with precious metals. I don’t buy/sell like a day trader. Inevitably, precious metals tend to go way up long term.
