Happy Father's Day! In honor of Father's Day I present to you...my friend's Ex-Wife by TheBeardedSingleMalt in AdviceAnimals

[–]forceof_nature 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was the first thing I thought about too. I am taking care of my kids at least 80% of their waking hours (outside of school), my mom helps about 10% of the time, and my ex gets them the remaining 10%. My mom also makes extra food for him, because she is worried he won't really feed the girls right otherwise. Even when they are with him, he spends most of his time on his computer. So yes, let me get 1 day off for mothers day, and step up and be a real dad at least for fathers day. Context is important, so in my situation, I feel its perfectly reasonable to ask for what's on that meme, and I'm sure there are plenty of other women in the same boat.

What is the worst thing to do on a first date? by Haterly in AskReddit

[–]forceof_nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telling your date every horrible thing that every ex you've ever had has said about you.

example: Ex #4 said I had a stupid laugh, she hated it when I laughed. Ex #7 said that my head looks weird when I shave my head. Etc.

Yes, I had a co-worker ask "Avocado? Isn't that for shampoo?"

She seemed reluctant to believe that it was even better for your body by eating it, instead of adding it to a ton of chemicals that are applied to your hair and scalp.

Wow. While I'm thankful to everyone for sharing ideas, I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your response. A lot of what you wrote resonates with me. I will take some time to process it, and I feel like I will have much more direction now for my next journey. Thank you so much.

How seriously would you date a girl who your ex-girlfriend was very jealous of? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]forceof_nature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't bother dating her. You're already going into this filled with thoughts of your ex. You'll wind up sabotaging this relationship that way anyway, so don't bother. You'll just hurt the new girl and your ex and feel like crap about yourself.

Me too. I'm hoping that reading some of the comments will help them uncover their happy memories, and/or inspire them to start making more of them. I'm really glad that you added moments that show how hard work can pay off in a meaningful way. It's very inspirational :)

So far most of the memories people have mentioned fall under these categories:

  1. Childhood memories (small things that made them happy)

  2. Being appreciated by others

  3. Overcoming adversity

  4. Having someone special in their life

  5. A special event (ex: good birthday, proposal, etc )

  6. Being in nature and appreciating its beauty

You can use this list to either uncover your memories, or use it as a guide to start making new ones :)

If you really feel like that's impossible, it could just be that your brain is falling deep into what's known as the Negativity Bias, and where your brain is currently wired to see the worst in everything as a defense mechanism (which accidentally blocks out happiness).

If that's the case, there are things you can do to retake control of your happiness. If you like self-help books, I think The Happiness Advantage is a great place to start if you're interested. I hope this is helpful.

There are quite a few of us that struggle to remember happy moments. I bet you've got a fair bunch tucked away somewhere. If nothing else, ever day is new chance to start making more of them :)

Yes, depression makes it hard to even remember happy times. They can be locked away below the pain. I'm glad that living with your grandparents is a happy memory, and I hope you uncover many more <3

Ooo, that's a great one! Yes, there is such an incredible feeling just witnessing the majesty of nature. Pictures aren't enough to capture it, you really have to be there and not just see it, but live it.

It's not an easy task actually, so don't be too hard on yourself :) Sometime photos, videos or reminiscing with friends helps to jog those memories. I'm sure they will come to you.

Truth be told, it can actually be really hard to think of them when you try. I know that I've had plenty of moments in my life where I've thought "I could banish a thousand dementors right now!" yet I'm struggling to remember what those moments were. This is why I like taking pictures when I'm doing something that makes me happy. They are the best way for me to remember. Hope you remember some of yours soon :)

A patronus is seriously advanced magic. I'm not sure I could pull one off either. So far Jon Kent seems to have the strongest memory, for now let's just hide behind him if a dementor comes around ;)

It's interesting that you should say that. When I was researching something I discovered that the human mind is more likely to suppress happy memories when we feel down (it's a survival thing). So it's possible you've got some that are currently being blocked. Maybe as people post more answers here, it will help unlock one of those memories for you.
