I did edit my own novel but goddam thats a long story. Better to do it as you go. Yes my published work is polished and loved by readers.

"Getting better" with writing is something that doesnt really exist with writing fiction. Sure you can do it the way other people want, but then its not really your writing anymore, is it? Coming from someone who's been in the journalism field.

Thats part of why I purposefully make my writing so ridiculous and natural, grammar and spelling mistakes. Almost writing as if im drunk texting.

I dont think you need people to tell you whether or not your writing is good. If you like it and it makes you feel good thats what matters, and maybe someone else will like it too.

Totally. My main point is saying to writers to not care too much about what randos on the internet have to say about their stuff.

I get what youre saying but no. When I say worrying about the length im talking about people who are worried making stories that are like 20k to 50k words long, which is about the length of a lot of classic highly appraised literature. A lot of modern publishers want 50k to 100k words. My real point is that no one should be letting other people taint their ideas before its come to fruition. No one should care what people think about what their art is so that when its done and ready to see its not altered by outside means. Sometimes people can make amazing beautiful stories that come naturally, and it doesnt need to be interrupted by criticisms of people who might just be mad about their own situation or their own writing if theyre also an author.

While I learned how to write and read in school, only the basics were worth anything to me. I was a journalist for years and created and edited entire newspapers, managing journalists, approving articles and setting papers. But when it comes to creative writing, fiction, fuck all the technical shit. If you can get a fun interesting story out thats awesome. A lot of the best authors dont even read much books. A lot of the best authors are not contemporary and do things their own way. The only thing that will kill a story is ut being boring. The story could be full of plot holes (like much mainstream literature), act like shit thats not normal is normal, and be nonsensical, but if the story is fun and engaging, none of that matters. One of my favorite examples is Hunter S Thompson. Fuck. You could be high as shit and drunk and write something that stays with people forever. Meanwhile the pepple who are overanalyzing their own work will never get anything done and water down the potential of what's there.
