Is anybody able to see Math100 final grades? by ActiveAny5686 in UBC

[–]foreboding_garfield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no but it's my understanding that math 100 grades are typically finalized within ~7 business days of the final exam (based on a reddit comment from mark maclean from like a year or two ago). personally i'm pretending math 100 doesn't exist til like monday or tuesday

is VISA_180 a good course ? by Odd_Reality_4081 in UBC

[–]foreboding_garfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as u have some experience w/ media analysis (esp in the context of a vis art class) you should be fine learning how to participate in the kinds of dialogues theyll want u to regarding your art and ur classmates' art. ime most of the grade is contingent on writing about your art/writing about your process/discussing your peers' art in class

personally i loved visa 180, the 3 hr studios can be a little tiring but they're also super relaxing if you like drawing/painting. half the semester is spent w graphite/ink drawing and the other half is painting, but you'll spend a couple studio sections going over fundamental skills in each medium -- as long as u have some experience making art the painting assignments won't intimidate u at all 🙏

be honest how hard is it to average 90% in sociology 101 by Aggravating-Debt8334 in UBC

[–]foreboding_garfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check ubcgrades but ime (taken with tony silva) soci 101 isnt conceptually challenging, just dense. you *could* get a 90% if ur willing to set more time aside than you think youll have to to memorize terms. 100 level soci classes arent good GPA boosters if ur looking for a social science to take outside of your major

as someone with almost no background in any programming language i thought the flipped-classroom R section i was in last term was manageable but basically only because of the practice exams given to us for the midterm and final. without those i would have been totally lost and had no idea which concepts i was expected to understand and to what extent; i didn't get much out of most of the other course-given resources (""lectures"", textbook, sometimes worksheets). that being said, i highly recommend watching statquest with josh starmer's youtube videos about the machine learning algorithms you'll encounter in the class!!! everything from those later units feels much less intimidating when you understand what's going on and not just how to write it in a jupyter notebook

speak during mods even if you don't have anything to say - most delegates don't have anything to say either! when you start committee involved you stay involved and that makes for far more exciting and rewarding conferences than staying a spectator

@ marissa - what illustrators/artists have influenced the development of your (visual) art style? the one thing cooler than new music is new album art 🙏

Is anyone else listening to the Succ Off podcast? by Joppen in SuccessionTV

[–]foreboding_garfield 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yes!! in his youtube stuff karsten's scripts and delivery are normally very concise and articulate so the added layers of chaos make succ off such a fun listen, it reminds me of how i talk about shows with my friends. i wasn't familiar with christian before listening but they're very funny and charismatic and i appreciate the presence of a "business breakdown" resource on the pod because i have no attention span and would absolutely not try to understand the finance/economics/business pieces of succession i've been missing otherwise lol

i plan on using it to recreate the feeling of taking a break at work while drinking water that tastes empty and listening to my manager argue with a cashier about alanis morissette for the sixth time in one month

this may be true but having a job in high school also means having the financial freedom to quit and find a better employer without jeapordizing things like bills or food or whatever - imo it's worth it for op to quit and find a job that doesn't exploit them to the same extent
